Here's a thought... The fact that you say 4500 says to me it's the p/n rev limiter. But you're moving right? I know the vcm cosiders a stick car in p/n when the speed is between 0-5. Maybe it's using the front wheel speed sensors to determine that. Which explains why your ABS is fubar too. Try unplugging the front wheel speed sensors and try again. I'll put money on it.

I was jsut thinking that... that the computer was thinking it was in neutral. I was wondering how that "switch" worked int he computer. How does the computer see that you are in rolling or not?
because if you are stationary, you can only rev up to 4500 rpms... But if you are rolling, and saying throwing a hard downshift you can rev up to the rev limiter at like 6k. So maybe it is related to the front wheel sensors.
and yes it is set at 4500 rpms in 99+

EDIT: btw... try pulling the batt, to clear the codes. I believe the ABS system is different then the pcm so even if you reset the PCM the abs system isn't but the battery will do it.

Just scanned the VCM with HP Tuners. Comparing to a stock '01 M5 (off horist.com) finds no differences in the parameters that it checks.
Nothing unusual under the console, checked and it's fine.
My ABS INOP is still on. Even after a 1/2 hour battery unplug. Need to get the car up on stands Friday and check to see if any of the wheel sensors got pulled out when they strapped the car down.

Its not that his car has no power above 4500, it hits a limiter.
Now I have never had BAD KR, but I would assume that even with KR, it will still rev past 4500 I would imagine.

HPtuners (on the street) says I'm getting minimal KR at WOT. I'll get to spark once I get past air and fuel </font>
umm any kr is bad IMO
