  • Need some help on 3.4L possible problem big cam in

Ok so i just got done doing my cam swap and roller rockers and headers.... I used my comp cam and i also used split ratio rocker arms on it (1.6 ratio intake and 1.5 ratio exhaust). So this cam was the one on ammperformance... now i think its something like full throttle performance. Its the cam on top of the page for 3.4L. Anyways I did a shakedown run last night with the 24lb injectors and it was way too rich and stumbled a whole lot... So now i switched back to stock injectors and its still a bit rich but it doesnt stumble as much..... when I am accelerating it kind of pops and stuff could that be caused by the open header or is it a miss that could be a problem.... if it is a miss what could be the cause. Thanks for any help i can get. I am gettin the exhaust welded on saturday I hope. Thanks again,

My car was doing that when I had a bad wire causing a misfire.
    I would check coils/plugs/wires...

ok but see if i am just driving regular then it pops when accelerating hard it doesnt pop at all and revs fine but it backfires under light throttle .. its weird.... maybe it is just the open y pipe.... it pulls real hard i cant wait to get some dyno time and some track times.. anyways we will find out any suggestions are welcome. Thanks again for everything in advance,

Thats actually exactly what mine did...
It would idle rough and only backfire when I would first take off, after I got to about 15-20mph it would stop.

By the way, I ran open y-pipe when I put my headers on for about a day and I did not have any backfires at all.

by the way my pacesetter headers suck.... i am not pleased with how they were made... I had to grind down the drivers side flange so that they could fit flush to the head and not hit the power steering bracketing and I had to make a smaller bolt with one side ground down flat just so it would fit on the passenger side middle bottom.... also my y pipe is resting on the oil pan and the tranny cooler lines and it doesnt come close to the exhaust.. Its at the exhaust shop this morning and the guy who does all my exhaust work and my friends work also mentioned how badly the headers were made and he said he will have to bend the y pipe a lot and maybe make a new one if it will work better and also that the headers dont allow much space for the y pipe. Anyways... my poping doesnt stop after 15 or 20mph it will pop randomly all the way as fast as you go but just light on the throttle..... when you hit the gas it then stops popping and revs smoothly... I dunno.... anything??? thanks for the help though and I checked the wires they are fine plugs were new a couple months ago but i could have fouled them out so that could be it..... and coils... i dunno should be fine thanks,

"persuaded" and i have space between the oil pan and the y pipe but the tranny lines are still touching it guy told me to re-route them... i dunno whatever im workin on it any suggestions on the problem?

Play around with the timing, sounds like it's a lttle too advanced...oops brain fart, You guys don't have distributor... Ok then, go ahead and cheack all of your ignition components. Sounds odd though. Don't feel bad about the hedders, the ones on my car cost me 600 bux when all was said ands done...Didn't have a Y pipe, hedders had to be bent in some places, heated and hamered in others :( .

what heads are you running??? if they are stock its probably because you cant supply enough air to the motor , i thought you were doing a 3X00 head swap though... fill me in

figured out the problem and im good to go car runs great... First run i ran 24lb injectors and then i switched back to stock because it was way to rich... didnt take the plugs out but they were fouled so i changed them last night before i went out and the car ran great still does and everything is awesome... lopes hard and idles now sounds nice through the headers and cutout.

Glad to hear that it is finally fixed! I don't remember if you got the adjustable fuel pressure regulator, but it would definitely help with your setup.
