Would someone please explain to me how the RPM's work?. I just bought the HPP3 and I know I can extend the RPM band so I can keep my car in the powerband longer but I always thought that going over the redline was bad for the engine, that's why the car never goes over it and that's why auto transmissions always shift before going redline while WOT.
Why is it that all of the sudden is ok to raise the rev limiter with the HPP3?

Well, first off, GM doesn't want you to kill your car, so the Redline might be a couple RPMs lower than it really needs to be. Secondly, the HPP3 is designed for everybody to use. Just because you got one doesn't mean you need to raise your Rev Limiter. People who have put in a new cam and upgraded the valvetrain can safely raise the Redline to a higher value. Just a thought, somebody else can prolly chime in with better info on this.
Well to tell the truth even our 6000 rpm redline is lofty for our engines. Our engines run out of gas (not literally lol, you know what I mean..) around 5500 rpms. Our maximum 200 horsepower comes at 5200 rpms. So unless you've done some extensive modding like a high performance cam or pistons then it's not a good idea. Probably blow the engine up if you try to go past 6000 very often without said modifications. But I guess if you are planning on doing the mods down the road it wouldn't hurt, but if it was me I'd do all the modifying I plan on the car..then program it.
Hmmm, mine wont touch 6000 RPM. I'm thinkin the limiter is around 5600. I dunno if it's different for autos, but that's real close to your 5500 number for runnin out of steam.

Rev limiter is 5950 RPMs, but an auto will shift a little before that. ;)
Thanks for all the info guys. Since it seems like I need some high performace parts to be able to get the most out of the "Rev Limiter" feature, I won't even touch it. I'll just use the "Power Tuning" and the "Cooling fan On/Off temperatures" for now. Once I get the gears and the LSD installed I will use the "Speedometer Correction" feature.

Still trying to find oil leak on my Camaro, it’s a tough one. I think it is the oil pressure sender myself. Leaking when raving and going into boost....
