The firebirdv6.com tech database used to say flat tappet, but after both Mike Huff and I pulled our lifters for cam swaps and saw rollers, I edited the database.
Its no problem Dominic..... Hey keith, would you listen to the clip and see if you can tell, just for another opinion. Also, what ill effects might a lifter have when its compressed.

Could be a lifter or a loose rocker arm, even a bent pushrod.
When the car is running, try to locate the sound.. find out which side its coming from.. when my 4 collapsed on the pass side, the pass side was noticeably louder than the dr side.
Pull the valve covers and check. It only takes about 30 minutes to pull them.
Driver side:
Remove ICM. 1/2" nuts and 7mm in back.
Remove valve cover. 6 9/16" bolts
Go buy a mechanics stethascope, it's a tool you'll find you can't live without for diagnosing engine noise. It will isolate valve train noise as well as help find vacuum leaks. When you get it, run the tip along your valve covers to check for strange noises when the engine is running.

I have that same sound exactly. I went over the entire motor, with a stethiscope, and found nothing, I could not hear the noise from any point on the engine. I even got under it and listened. I will just replace the lifters, when I do a cam. I also noticed that I have lost some topend hp from what ever this is.
