• New performance pkgs. for 3.8 motors

I've seen new performance pkgs. from www.3800performance.com and www.zzperformance.com. zzperformance has a stage 1 and stage 2 kit for non-sc'd L36 motors. the stage 1 kit cosists of a tb/maf unit, rockers, underdrive pulleys, and a 180* thermostat. the stage 2 kit has a high velocity intake manifold, bigger bore tb, pushrods, extended range rockers, and pcm tuning. 3800performance has a new race-prepped block engine package consisting of a L67 block race-prepped, custom camshaft, shot-peened and hardened crank, L67 rods, their custom forged piston's, and new seals. a few other products that caught my attention were their titanium retianers and HD valvesprings that can handle lifts up to .600". taking care of valvetrain components helps our engines survive higher rpm stain, and those increasing their redlive via HPP3 should look into these 2 products, not just for reliability, but for the increased hp gained from lighter valvetrain components.

I would ONLY do the TB/MAF on 95-98 cars. I still don't recomend it for power.. It MAY only be worth 1rwhp or so. Our TB's are huge as is. I hae mine done myself, however I doubt I gaind a thing.
Rockers... my oppinion is to get a cam!!! You'll be MUCH happier and faster.
Underdrive pulleys, haven't tried them.. so I have no oppinion. I doubt they would be worth much though.. I ran just crank, water pump backwards and alternator and didn't gain a thing.
180 thermo.. I recomend 160 but it only costs a few bucks anyway.

the stage 2 kit has a high velocity intake manifold, bigger bore tb, pushrods, extended range rockers, and pcm tuning.
High velocity intake manifold.. Once again I've never been a supporter of the P&P intakes. I did mine myself and gaind probably nothing. There are better places to spend time/$$$.
I think our TB bore is adequate. I'd like to see dyno #'s that show bigger bore is worth anything.
Pushrods.. why?
Extended range rockers... I say get a cam!!!!
PCM Tuning.. this could help.

3800performance has a new race-prepped block engine package consisting of a L67 block race-prepped, custom camshaft, shot-peened and hardened crank, L67 rods, their custom forged piston's, and new seals.
Now this would be nice for a turbo/SC setup. You could probably run 18+lbs of intercooled boost on one of them.

a few other products that caught my attention were their titanium retianers and HD valvesprings that can handle lifts up to .600".
Part # would be nice. I hope they aren't CC 941's.
I hear good things about CC 918's.

taking care of valvetrain components helps our engines survive higher rpm stain, and those increasing their redlive via HPP3 should look into these 2 products, not just for reliability, but for the increased hp gained from lighter valvetrain components.
Many GTP guys rev VERY high on stock valvetrain without float.. I still question that though. Stiffer valve springs is always a good idea when you do a fast ramped cam.

I believe the killer with RPM's is rotational mass. They really put a strain on bearings.

Thats alot of money for a short block. I bet I could take mine to a local speed shop and have something similiar done alot cheaper.

I'm just posting all this for people who wanna see what else is out there for their cars, and maybe for the mods 2 update the modifications list on firebirdv6.com. magnus, I totally agree w/ getting a cam and leaving the stock ratio the same, but some guys can't spend the cash to tear apart the heads 2 get 2 the cam, and the rockers r cheaper 2 do and give ok gains for the money.

The produce # for the valvesprings r VSS-130. they're Intense valvesprings.

Well if you do not go to radical of a cam then you really do not need to take off the head just to change the valve springs.

Heads don't have to come off to do cam swap..

I'm not sure even the intakes have to come off.. I'm going to try using extending magnets down the lifter valley to hold up the lifters and just remove the front cover.. Should be able to swap the cam in 4 hours.

Magnus, what cam would you recomend for a 02 3.8? How much HP would I gain from your recomendation, and why would you recomend it?

Umm... it really depends on what you are looking for... what you want to get out of it.. how you want it to run.. if it will be NA, N20, Blown, Turbo, etc. etc..

and this really isn't the post for it.

Ops, my bad forgot to mention that part. Well it is my daily driver car, so no blower, turbo or stuff like that. So I'm looking to gain maximum HP of course, but keep it reliable.

Plus I know if I get too much lift I might need new retainers, valve springs, rockers, pushrods, lifters, and so on. Want to avoid all that crap if possible.

The only mods I have planned are:
1. a granelli high flow lid & K&N.
2. a HPP3 to run 93 octane and maximize computer settings, blah blah blah.

Mods I have done so far are:
1. Got a 180 them (I think that is what 02's had for stock), if not then it's 195 or whatever is stock.
2. SLP cat-back dual exhuast.

Yes your question should be in its own thread.. all of our replies are off-topic and take away from this topic. It ruins the thread.
