If i where to get my hand on an engine (let's say a LT1 with 60k miles on it)How many miles you think i could put on it? When i get it could i get work done to it to "erase" some of the miles?

You could have it rebuilt, but an engine with 60k on it isn't too bad unless is was totally ragged out.
I'd say you could get at least 100k out of an engine with 60k on it. Engines built within the last 10 years or so are built to last over 200k.
You would probably want to get your hands on a LS1 for your body style, it would be easier to integrate.

I used to have an 87 firebird all through high school, and college. (many moons ago) I ran it up to about 385k miles. Depends how you take care of it, you can make anything last as long as you can get parts for it! :DThanks, <br />JAM<p>02 Firebird GT

Not Camaro related but kind of cool. A friend of mine has two Chevy 1500 pickups for his business. Both are hitting 500k miles. If we are talking trucks I would go Dodge all the way. My family bought a new Dakota 2x4 new in '95 for camping, heavy towing, halling, exc. After 75k so far it has never had a problem, ever! With only oil changes and the usual stuff it has never needed to be serviced for anything in its far-from-pampered life. I am sold on Dodge for trucks.

I would expect at least 200k out of it if the oil was changed regular. Regular oil changes is key. The inside of the engine should be spotless if the oil was changed regular. If you see caking in the valve covers the oil probably wasn't changed often enough.
My old neighbor had an S10 with the 2.8 with 291,000 miles on it. Heck he bought it with 250k. Ran like new last time I saw it. My brother had an early 80's Olds Eight-Eight with a 350 that had 239,000.
I had an 87 Camaro with the 2.8 MPFI with 212K. Put 120k of those on myself - and that car saw 5000 RPMs every day. Yep, they are going to rip it apart to see if they can determine what, if anything, made it last so long. Then they'll implement what they find in future designs for longer-lasting trucks.

While it is very true that engines are assembled so much better now than the were even 15 years ago, a cars test of time is going to be how the rest holds up. My 3.8 has just rolled 130K miles with only the typical rear main seal at 50K. But I did just break a tie-rod...got dry (should have been greasing them...my fault). Personally, I am waiting for my tranny to let go, or some kind of really expensive friggen sensor of some type. But, if the engine/tranny goes, I am going to replace it, the rest of the car is too good to get rid of....but a 5sp would be nice....
