  • Head compatability?

I am in the process of planning a rebuild for my 3.4, and was wondering would heads off of a 2.8 or 3.1 fit,and be a good alternative for porting and polishing or would they be a PITA. SEcond what are the benefits of aluminum heads from say SUPER SIX. LAst, willa 2.8 liter intake manifold bolt up ok without having to move all the lines in the top of the manifold. DOes anyone reccomend this?

the 2.8/3.1/3.4 heads are all interchangable, the alumnium heads flow as good if not better than the super six heads with no porting

however an anumnium head swap isnt just a simple bolt on, do a search, you will find all the troubles that russell had when doing his 3X00 head swap

a 2.8L intake manifold will work , however it will have a hole in the back for a distributer, which you do not have and wont flow any better than the stock one

if you have time for the car to be down and determination to do the alumnium head swap DO IT, russell is a very friendly fellow and has helped me tons, my next motor will have the alumnium heads however until i graduate in a year i wont have the time to complete the motor

The 3400 head swap is a pain.
The distributor hole is in the block on our moters.
You can Use 2.8 or 3.1 heads on your car I will.
I was going to do what I can with the cast iron heads then go to the Al some day I hope.
I would only recomend this if you know what your doing and getting into.

so, are the 2.8 and 3.1 aluminum or cast iron. second, are the stock 3.4 heads larger than the stock 2.8 or 3.1. in other words say i were to get the 3.1 or 2.8 heads, would i need to bore them more than the stock 3.4's? where do you get aluminum heads and what is the cost?

The 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 there are both Al and Iron heads for them.
The FWD cars have the better higher flowing Aluminium heads with canted valves, larger valves and larger ports. They flow better.
The RWD cars have sh!ty Iron heads, I have a lot of there #'s on my car domain site.
The Iron heads flow about 130 CFM on a stock intake port on our Iron heads.
The are different configurations and are not directly interchangable between Al and Fe versions.
          The 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4 are all 60*-V6's so that's what I'll call them so I don't have to keep typing 2.8, 3.1 and 3.4L.
All 60*-V6 heads are the same after 84 or 85, I have lots of V6 info on the hard drive of my other computer. After that date there refired as the HO, or "high output" head.
3.4L guys like to think there above the other 2.8 and 3.1 guys because they think there 3.4 has a better head than the other V6's.
The intake is different not saying its better but the heads are the same.
You do not bore heads. main reason is quinch aera.
The roundest part of the chamber on all 60*-V6 heads measures about 3.5'' the bore of the 2.8's and 3.1's.
I ported mine out to the 3.62'' of the 3.4L's bore to unshroud the valve for more flow and lower C/R.
See the finished ones on my car domain site. They have Polished valves, P&P intake, exhaust and combustion chambers. LS1 Titanium retainers, K-motion springs, crane valve locks.
