Service manual shows closed is 1.72" at 75 lbs. Open is 1.277" at 228 lbs. That means 0.433". I'm sure it'll handle more than that, though.Matt

Hmmm. I might just do stockers. The gt2 is known for being able to run on stockers. I will take a bench vise and a ruler and get a good idea of where coil bind is.
Ls6 springs are ideal for this cam, but they are known to munch the tensioner too. :(

I'm still using my stock locks. There is some bad stuff with the comp cams locks, where they sat too deep into the retainers. (You can search on clubgp.com and find out more on that) I am not sure if the locks are the same as the ls1 locks though.
I have gm part number written down for the v6 locks. But I don't know if my source was reliable or not. GM # 10166345

FYI - I ran stock ls1 springs and zzp modded retainers for a good 35-40k. The ls1 springs were used and did weaken over time. after weakening I was getting valve float rev'ng past 6k. I'm now running '01 LS6 springs. Lately on really hot days at the track I can still get a little valve float. But I'm still running stock lifters. 102k total and almost 50k cammed. I'm running .510 lift btw.

I am in the same position.... I might have read too fast or not understood the final decision...
Ls6 springs (90#) and ZZP Modded retainers?? to keep the flow good? I am running .512 lift and i am getting float past 6000 on 02 LS1 Springs, stock V6 retainers and locks....

With ls1 springs you should really be running ls1 retainers. There is an install/closed height difference between the two.
If you are truely getting float you can look to change to 105# springs or try replacing your lifters. I am under the impression that lifters are a wear item with aggressive lobe cams.
But first off swap out your stock retainers. That is a cheap and relatively easy thing to do. Then see if you are still getting the valve float. If you are concerned about clearance try the ZZP Modded retainers, otherwise you should be ok with the regular ls1 retainers.Keith - 99 'maro - White M5 - bumpstick and boltons - 13.65 @ 101 N/A

I saw a few 'cam people' taking notice of the timing chain tensioner problem in this thread but I have not read any posts from any of us confirming said premature ware. I am going to poke and search around here to see If i missed some important posts....like this thread...OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't want to crack open the front of the engine just to check if the tensioner is getting destroyed. OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It was one thing to find out about the LS1 retainers but another thing all together to find out about the timing chain bidness. I know altering valvetrain such as higher load springs can lead to other 'weaker' links being exposed...but the tensioner????? WTH?????
I need to get out my hanes manual and look for picks of the L36 timing chain system. I don't quite understand how higher load from the springs causes anything to happen with a tensioner. Not understanding that one...but scared to hell of it.
