the factory rods on the 3.4 are forged. just polish them... if you are really paranoid, you can cryo treat them for added security.

Polish the rods? No reason for that really. The stock ones are forged steel and the aftermarket ones are forged aluminum. The aluminum ones are much lighter which gives you a lower "bob weight" which will allow the engine to rev up faster as well as produce higher RPMs

polishing the rods eliminates surface irregularities. surface irregularites breed stress concentrations. parts are more inclined to break at the location of stress concentrations. eliminating possible places for a part to break, at least to me, would seem like a good thing. im not saying this is anything thats gonna push the rod capabilities up 200 hp, but itll help. however if you do decide to go this route, it would also be advantageous to have all the rods re-balanced.
as far as AL rods, you gotta be careful running them as they stretch with use and wear out much quicker than steel. I personally would never run AL rods on a street car.

Keep in mind that the Manley forged rods are strong enough to hold 1000+ horsepower. With our cars pushing under 300 horsepower on a normal basis, stretching is not as common of a factor as say a highly tuned LS1.

You should also think about "knife-edging" the crankshaft counter weights. This will help it cut through the oil better when rotating. It will also allow it to hit higher RPMs faster due to less resistance.

true.. the AL rods are designed to hold a lot more hp than they are being subjected to, but their material properties still make them more subject to stretch than a steel rod. our 60 degree v6's though have been regularly revved to 7000k+ in other cars (fwd cavy's, grand prix, etc) in NA trim... The rods hold together just fine and have been shown to hold in excess of 400hp. the crank might be a weak point depending on what you want to do (as long as you get forged pistons).. as of now there are no main stud girdles that I'm aware of, however, one was being discussed as a limited run on a different site. That would help beef up the bottom end and help out our puny 2 bolt mains. agian, its all a degree of how extreme you want to go... cryo treating is an option as well..

intake manifold.. there was a guy making one for our cars. it was advertised on a fiero forum and turned into one of the biggest flame fests ever with people debating whether or not it being made of steel instead of aluminum made a difference. i think the link was listed on here a few months ago.. truelo or something was the manufacturer. besides that, there is either having someone port our manifold or making your own. some people have made their own with varying degrees of success. modifying the TB mounting flange to accept an LT1 TB is also somehting that has been done.
