I've heard people here refer to the 3.4L engine as a "stroker" engine. I've noticed some similarities between this engine and the 2.8 that was in my wife's old 85 Camaro. Is the 3.4 a 2.8 with some crazy mods? (although how do you get .6L out of stroking an engine?)
I was just wondering because I HATED that freakin' engine and I will sell this car in a heartbeat if it's going to be as much trouble as that other piece of GM fodder. (sorry, I'm a ford guy slowly being converted)

the 3.4 is a much better/newer block. there are 2.8-3.4 stroker kits. Those reuse your machined block. These kits can cost more than a working used 3.4, but you can get these w/ forged pistons & what not. The heads are basically the same, but the 3.4 have the better/newer springs. 3.4 also have more stock power (better cam). look @ my sig & see what I'm doing with my car.

one of the weak points in the 2.8 was the crank.. the 3.4's have forged cranks.. I had an 88 Jimmy with the 2.8, put in a long block after the motor went and 16k miles later the crank broke.. yep broke the crank!.. the 3.4 is a much better motor..

Thanks for the reasurance. I had so many problems with that engine, I traded the car for $500 towards the Camaro my wife has now.
I've always been a Mustang guy, and I've been impressed with the power this V6 has as compared to the ford V's, but if they're not making the Camaro/Firebird anymore.. I just might go back to Stangs!
The 2002 camaros are very classy, though. Kind of like sporty Chryslers on steroids! I might get one of the V8's when I trade up... decisions decisions decisions.
Thanks for the help guys!

Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
