  • porting 3.4 throttle body?

    i have a 94 maro, 3.4 with slp CAI, headers, hi flo cat, z28 2.75 i pipe, and dynomax super turbo muffler, i was wondering if i can port or enlarge the size of my throttle body, will this help? i really haven't looked at it in depth yet, but was just wondering if anyone did that or had any opinions?

    I might be way off base, but I heard you can modify an LT1 throttle body to fit a 3.4

      What were you planning on doing to increase the amount of fuel with this possible increase in air. Honestly, I think this is a waste of time of you. This is the weakest link in the chain effect. Have you done anything to the heads? Does it have an aftermarket cam? I know a lot of people will disagree with me but think about it. There is a certain point that you will reach before you have to start tearing into the block to get everything to work better. By porting the throttle body, you will increase the amount of air going in (in theory since your heads and plenum are still restricted). But the car still thinks that X amount of air is entering while maybe you increased X +2. Now you have a lean condition. I suppose you could bump up fuel pressure and lose some fuel mileage. Save your money for the head work and/or a cam.

        fuel mixture is automatically regulated by the input from the 02 sensors... the current fuel pump/injectors are well capable of delivering more fuel than is needed to make the peak HP. how do you expect a 6# powerdyne works with no aftermarket fuel pump?

        i do agree with the rest tho. porting the TB alone will only give you a tiny bump. to get a substantial increase you have to port the head alongside.

          I think you are missing the point. If the car knows that more air is coming it, sure, it can drop more fuel. But when you modified the throttle body, you are introducing more air without the computer knowing about it. That's why I asked about mods to the fuel system. Granted the O2 sensor is used to verify air/fuel mixture but that is just one of the variables included in the table. It would throw everything off and possibly set codes.

            well, i think you're overestemating the increase of air volume. besides, there is no difference to the computer (and it doesn't really "know" anything) what method is used to increase the airflow. as long as all the sensors are where they should be and are operational, they will sense the increased air volume and the computer will thereby adjust the fuel mix accordingly. up to a point, obviously. but there should be a wide enough margine up to that "point" with stock fuel delivery equipment for it not to be an issue with porting. if you start messing with the sensors, then its a different story...

              Overestimating, maybe. But these sensors are sensitive, sometimes too sensitive. Don't you think that using a honing the throttle may create an issue between the MAF and TPS? The computer expects X amount of air at Y degree of angle that the TPS is moved. The O2 is used to verify this. The computer will throw a code sooner or later. It just something to keep in mind

                i removed the front bar of my TB and it has thrown no codes and knocked my 1/8th mile time .3 and added 1 MPH [img]graemlins/thumbsup.gif[/img]

                    ok simple ans port and polish the heads and send the throttle body off to jet for them to rework it end of problem no long explaination on less you want one

                      Just an FYI for those of you who port your pre 99 TB's..

                      If you remove the bottom half of the post you MUST remove the backign plate. If you do not you will run VERY LEAN at WOT.

                      Now, backign plate is gone... so why not remove the entire post? It won't make a difference in functionality, just more air flow..

                      But... now your MAF is all scrweed up and car runs rough on cold starts.. LT's are all out of whack.

                      time to put in a 99+ sensor.
