how much HP gain could i expect from having my heads ported and polished? im running a 98 3.8 w/ a magnaflow muffler..

My car gained approximately 80-90 HP with our Stage 3 heads, our NA cam, headers, and tuning. Check out our website at www.abbottracingheads.com/gm3800

I just wrote the sticky at the top of the forum for the ported head research. If you are considering buying a ported head, read that post. For general street cruising and racing, Abbott will be your best choice. When it comes down to ported head work, it depends partially on the design of the head and partially on the other mods complimenting it. with just your magnaflow muffler I wouldnt see all that much horsepower. Normally one doesnt get ported heads without a cam, upgraded fuel delivery, upgraded valvetrain and a tune. Assuming you do the job correctly and compliment it optimally with mods then your looking at between a 50-90HP.

Back to your question originally, with just heads the power wont be worth the price. If your gonna do head work then do it right with everything that goes along with it.

Also, since you said all you have is a magnaflow muffler, I would concentrate on other mods before you do motor work such as swapping rear axles, intake system, headers, hiflow cat, wires and plugs. You will gain just about the same amount of performance from all these other mods.
SLP CAI, RK Sport headers, P&Ped heads and intake, GT2 cam, Upgraded valvetrain, Z28 rear axle with 4.10s Tx Spd tune, Z06 rims, 2.5\" exhaust to flowmaster, 160* thermo, B&M ripper, upgraded ignition, rockford fosgate 12\" with sony xplode amp and HU.
