From my personal experience with them...they are trying there best..

the 96-97 PCMs on the V6s are very stubbern. THe torque management is a ***** to screw with.. everytime they try to hack into it, pcm goes into default... all other PCMs are easier to work with. I guess first generation on OBD2 on V6s is not as good as newer

just outta curiosity, would it be allright to upgrade my computer to say a 02' if I could get a pcm from that year? so then that way It would be easier to get a chip or reprogram it. TIA

Are you kidding? Different wires and sensors with 02 like throttle body,MAF, O2s etc... you screw your **** up after then Rober Downy Jr can snort crack

they are trying but the enginner is very busy. ken at superchips has been very helpful, he says im lucky i have a gm product because the engineer is a gm guy as well as him. he states he understands our situation and will do everything in their power 2 help. im sure they will help soon but hey im more leaning towards programming by magnus, he might be able to do more..

Nope, I know that at least the TB will be messed up since '99+ is a drive by wire set up and the 95.5-98 are a drive by cable set up.

I e-mailed them mid last year, and called them too. This is the e-mail conversation that we had
Btw, start reading from the bottom, I just copied and pasted from the saved e-mail:
To reprogram the computer it will cost $295.00 plus $125.00 custom
programming charge plus shipping. Once we receive the computer it should
take about 3 to 5 days to get it programmed and shipped back out to you.

No offense to magnus, he may know how to tune the car, but hacking into the pcm is a whole other beast.

I've looked around, even at high cost dealer solutions, and to be honest, I haven't seen much that can do what we want it to (if you have found such a thing, please tell me).

Hacking a pcm would be something like this, you get a cable, hook up to your computer, and then if you knew how to get info from your serial port, you would get a bunch of hex.

it would look like this:

0f a5 66 00 10 ff 7c

only a whole lot more of it.

you would either need a lot of time & luck to decode such information (its easy to convert it to numbers, and easy to convert numbers to ANSI text, but I betcha OBDII doesn't use ANSI). But you have no way of telling what these numbers mean. Some of the hex is text, some of it is numbers, and you know nothing about it to tell which is which.

So you would need some kind of manual that explains the values OBDII spits out, or a way to delve into the actual program flashed onto the pcm (probably something like C), disassemble it, and start looking for the kinds of values it will spit out, memory locations, etc.

I don't know what Magnus' profession is, but I would be damn surprised if anyone did it who wasn't a professional computer scientist. To be honest, a good hacker would be a great bet to crack the pcm.

As long as something doesn't come out that I like, I plan on tinkering around with it in the future, but as for myself, it would be a couple years R&D at least, I honestly don't expect any real results from my tinkering -- I bet someone will be me to the punch long beforehand.

Hacking/Cracking/Phreaking, I've done it all.

I'm not using a cable, and I've already purchased the very expensive hardware to do it. Yes, hex... and its all factor based too... Lots of time is right.. but hopefuly I'll be sucessful.

Your spare PCM you can send to me whenever... I'll let you know when we can try your current PCM... or I can just send your old one back wiht a program for T&T purposes.
