• help with taking apart engine

ok so i think i bent a rod a couple days ago...i parked the car and have started to take it apart.

i'm stuck hard a day later on how to get to the valve covers. do i need to take off the intake manifold? or do i just go for the valve cover bolts?

i've gotten the injectors and everything out but did i need to do that?

just need a little help. thanks.

For any work on your car, you need to at least get a Haynes manual. That'll tell you step by step how to do it.

No, you shouldn't have to remove the intake manifold, and usually not the injectors. But I'm not a 3.4 expert, so I can't help you with any of the little tips for that motor.

I suggest a haynes manual as well...

and yes you have to pull the injectors and the upper intake to get to the valve covers its a pian in the asss.

Also be careful with the t-fitting vacuum line on the front of the intake manifold its kind of fragile.

Really? Wow, that is a pain the ***. Glad my 3.8's easy to work on. Can't count how many times I've had the valve covers off.

a truleo intake could fix that, but I don't know if they make short runner designs that would fit teh 4th gen bay.

So bottom line...should I do this myself or get it done professionally? This will be the first time I've done it and I am getting no help... :(

            What do you suggest?

I did it to my 3.4L at like 2am with a AA maglite as my light source.

1st time I ever did it on a 3.4L and it came out fine, car is still on the road, running fine 55k later. I did snap an intake manifold bolt, I just rigged one with a bolt form home depot and some washers.
