  • and there she goes...BAD NEWS...

So last monday I overreved the bird hit about 6800 on the rpms...and thought that i bent a pushrod. well today i took it to the mechanic, after me trying to do it and figuring out it was too much for me to handle, got it to the mechanic and i crank her up...dude says yah that's some nasty piston slap. FAWK! So the guy says that it'd just be cheaper to replace the whole daymn engine......not what i wanted to hear. so now i have to decided whether or not the car is worht putting another $2000+ to get a new motor put in.

I've been toying with the idea of putting a LT1 in it. But haven't called enough places to figure out how much that is going to cost. I guess we'll figure it out sometime. If i decide not to put the engine in i'm just going to part the car out for all it's worth and sell the body. what a wonderful christmas...santa didn't take one look at my list, and now this...

    suggestions? comments? thanks.

don't you have a rev limiter?

if you do put a motor in put a junkyard one in, or do lt1 imo...

That seems kind of high. With a junkyard motor and install, it shouldn't cost much over $1000.

Yes you could put an LT1 in it, and it wouldn't cost a whole lot more than replacing what's in it now. That kindo of stuff has been discussed here before, so be sure to search for some info on what needs to be done.

Doesn't help if you shift into 1st instead of 3rd, or some other weird downshift. ;)

Kind of weird but, I dont think my car has a rev limiter either? I always assumed it did, and then one day I drove my friends 2000 Camaro and it would cut off the gas at like 5800 RPMS or something so I kept screwing up the shifts. Is that a newer feature or something?

I have heard of some of the electronic TB cars having it set lower at 5800 for some reason.

It doesnt take much mechanical know-how to pull a motor out and put a motor in...

You can get a complete engine from some salvages or the boards for like $500 max.

                        Overreved 6800? ha, I shift at 6500.

also remenber with a motor swap you will have to swap the tranny too. even if you swap to the 3.8L. that's where some of the high cost is comming in when you get quotes.

Yah I'm not gonna do the motor swap, I think I'm getting a used 3.4 from F-Body Motorsports in the Charlotte area for about $1500 installed and out the door. Hopefully that'll be enough till I sell it and get an LT1 this summer...then I don't give a fawk what happens to it. I just don't have the money or can risk not having a car for now...I need transportation.
