ok, well i hear alot about compression ratios on these here forums. people say lower comp for blowers/nitrous and raise for strokers (i think). i would like to know exactly what role compression ratio has in performance other than just what octane gas you need to run. which kinda leads me into my other q: are there any good books/sites out there regarding performance engine building?

also, just a thought running through my crazy head: is there such a thing as a blown AND stroked motor? what do you need to consider should you be willing to do that?

    thanks in advance

i remember hearing come racing saying that they had a stronger crank in the making for their stroker kit, it was going to be specificly designed for boosted applications, you might want to look around their site or maybe email them

as for wanting to know more about compression im in the same boat as you

The more compression you have the more power you can make. The reason you lower compression with a boosted set up is high compression will cause detonation (fuel air mixture igniting before the spark plug fires). When you lower compression you can increase boost without detonation.
Yes you can run boost with a stroker kit but no one makes a stroker for our cars yet except ZZPerformance which uses a reworked stock crank and is not as strong as the stock crank. They do not recomend and boost with it.
      Hope this helps.

there is a forged kit out there by COME racing like matt was saying. Should take boost just fine.

you can run high competions all day with boost you just need the high octane fuel 110-130 octane to let you do so

so for the street you make more power buy lowering it and running more boost..... PSI is not what makes power, its CFM runing more PSI usally make's the turbo push more air(everyturbo has its limits). more air (in CFM or lb/min) = more power

yeah i did a little bit of searching on compression last night and this is the basics

-gasoline can only be compressed so much before it detonates, if it detonates before it is supposed to it is bad for the engine (its called knock)
-the higher octane rating the more it can be compressed before combustion
-if the air is already compressed, from a turbo or a supercharger, it puts more pressure on the fuel so you have to use premium gasoline or have lower compression

I guess that is pretty much it

Viper04 is right about the cfm's, and I have a question also, psi realy is just how restrictive your system is correct? I know that p&p heads lowers your psi?

that only happens to super chargers, only becuase how the turbo works, a turbo regulates its boost from its own boost

that happens becuase the motor breaths better....

PSI is how much is over atmosphere or 14.7 PSI is what you walk around in every day

so 10 PSI is really 24.7 we only take what is over the 14.7.....

                  now air flow is different

you can have 20 psi in a water hose or 20 psi in a 10inch drain... what one is going to flow more gallons per minute?
