  • Has anyone else heard this?

The guy at Autozone said he couldn't pull my codes because he didn't have the equipment to do it. I said "you've got one on the shelf, what's the problem" and he said that the 95's have a OBD1(or whatever) computer and an OBD2 connector.

I researched this a little and the OBD2 standard didn't get enforced until 96, when F-bodies went 3.8. So, apparently, if you have a 94/95 3.4 you can't pull the codes?

I personally think it's a load of crap. How could GM be so stoopid? I've never tried myself to pull the codes, and everyone with an F body I know is a 3.8 and they just go to AZ to find their problem.

If the computer is indeed an OBD1 computer, couldn't you just short A and B (or 1 and 2 or whatever) and get the blinking SES light? Or is that not kosher anymore?

    I'm confused. Help!

    -Brian

P.S. The owner of my local AZ should be bound, gagged and pelted with crankshafts. Just thought you should know.

Yea, during the transition period there were some OBD-I cars with OBD-II type connectors.

I forget what was done to read the codes.

There is a OBD1 reader also. I know that 94s for sure have a way to read it.

My '94 lesabre had OBDI computer but a OBDII connector. Some models had this, some didn't. I used to have an OBDI autoxray scanner and bought the OBDII connector for it. It worked well, but I traded it out for a OBDII version, since I sold the car.

http://www.autocheckup.com has some pretty good prices on their scanners and you can get a OBD-I and an adapter to fit the OBD-I computers w/ OBD-II 16 pin connectors I believe.
