I know magnus did this himself, i was wondering what the procedure is with this. I have access to a car garage, and my car is already on the lift (we are swapping the tranny) so im wondering if this is something i can do while its up on the lift. Thanks in advance.

I would suggest not porting the TB unless you have a MAFT to compensate for the different MAF readings. I ported mine also but it will cause the car to run richer. With the SSM cam I have to lean out idle 5% and also at WOT. I doubt you will like the cold startup either. Basicly you are just removing the lower half of the MAF housing and also removing the plate behind the MAF sensor. You do not want to port around the blade area at all. Here is a pic of mine:

Ditto what Mike said.
My car runs horribly rich my exhaust tips are now charred black.
I hoping I'll be able to correct the cold start issue when I start programming my PCM.
I do NOT recomend this though for the average Joe. If its your daily driver, eventually you'll not want to go places because of the horrible starts it will cause.
I feel bad for my motor on cold starts. :(Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

Question: Wouldn't you be leaning the motor out by porting the MAF, since by doing this you're supplying it with more air (unless you supply more fuel)?

3.4 should be ok *i think*
If you left the MAF setup the same, the car would be leaned out a little yes, but what WE do when our MAF's are built into the TB really changes how the MAF reads the air.
Stock, the air goes in, hits a plate, gets directed downard and then back outward.. Thats very restrictive and won't flow much air so the readings are low.
P&P the air goes straight through. nuff said. This method flows a LOT of air through the MAF passage and thus, the readings are grealy incresaed.Keith - Chicago
HP Tuners - PCM Reprogramming
97 Firebird V6 to LS1 swap
V8 9.967@132.78 1.322 60\' NA Heads/Cam
V8 10.295@128.48 1.363 60\' NA Cam Only
V8 10.987@119.31 1.422 60\' NA Stock Internals
V6 13.674@98.22 NA
V6 12.394@104.91 N20 100HP

Can you explain the cold start issue? I'm not sure exactly what the issue is. Is the P&P of the TB the only cause or will the SSM cam do this byitself? I'm not doing the P&P of the TB, but I did order the SSM cam and package.
Thanks

My other question is this: Wouldn't the computer compensate for the change in MAF flow, at least to some extent? I'm assuming it can only compensate to a certain amount, and this is why you need a MAFT.
Speaking of which, is a MAFT a stand-alone tool, or do you need a laptop to run it through?2001 Onyx Black Camaro M5-Totalled
2005 Ford F150 XLT 5.4L

\"To make peace, prepare for war.\"

lafon, how long did tom tell you you had to wait for the heads?
fin, i believe you need an autotap to properly use the maft, and with that you need a laptop. or home pc in the passanger seat6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

I'm planning on getting Autotap before I ever get a MAFT. I'm actually hunting for a laptop right now. Of course I also need the darn cable.....2001 Onyx Black Camaro M5-Totalled
2005 Ford F150 XLT 5.4L

\"To make peace, prepare for war.\"

The computer can only compensate so much. The MAF will see a lot more air flow over what it did stock. It's calibrated to read air through that small hole and by removing the plate there will me much more airflow through the maf opening. This will make the ecm think there has been a large overall increase or airflow when actually the increase is small. I hope that didn't sound too confusing.
Yes, the MAFT is a stand alone tool you hook up under the hood, but you need the laptop to read what changes you are making with the MAFT dials.Michael Huff
92 RS, 98 V6, 97 SS, 00 Z28
http://www.carolinafbodyclub.com/
