Rebuilding Motor to handle 15-20 psi, what do i need?
Rebuilding Motor to handle 15-20 psi, what do i need?
I'm slapping a turbo into my car next year and want to do the supersix powerpack (along with a cam) all at the same time. Will GTP internals be able to handle all this power?? also, what parts would i exactly need to beef up the motor, and where can i find them for cheap?
any help/suggestions would be great.
thanks

Have the stock crank hardened and knife edged for wieght removal. Get a set of Total seal piston rings they have no gap and are for boost cause no blowby can occur. Replace all bearings with clevite 77 berings and then use a ARP main stud kit and ARP Connecting rod bolts and ARP Head studs. Drill out a third hole in the intake vally for extra oil.Remove the balancer shaft and block oil hole in back of motor and have all of your internals balenced at a shop. Also get a set of MLS head gaskets they are top quality. Redo all valvetrain with new stuff like compcam 130 lbs springs and low clearence retainers with oil restricted pushrods.
That setup is good for around 28-30 PSI
But you would then need like 72+ lbs injectors and a stand alone fuel system or a low impedence converter box to run the injectors on stock pcm you would need alot of custom programming tio set timing and the injectors. As well as you need a stage 3 tranny with a 4000 stall and gearing around a 3.23

You can also use the L-32 forged rods intense uses in their custom race short block.

unless your building a trailer queen think of some diffrent options
curently we are limited to 57 lbs injectors that is what the intense turbo gtp is running.
Tuning would be reallllll hard with 20+psi honestly
i would look in to a higher compression motor, it would be more streetable but still fast when you need it to be
even the big turbo supras dont make their 800+hp on pump gas
USE RACE GAS TO YOUR ADVANTAGE PEOPLE its easy to change the boost level on a turbo set up to go from pump gas to race gas and be able to easly boost 5psi more on race gas then on pump
tiago's car was done on race gas with 16psi with the stock bottom end he barly boosts 12 on pump , with a built bottom end with the same compression im sure he could boost 20psi no problem with race gas and tuning
tuning 20 psi with race gas with 57lb injectors is gonna be hard enough your not gonna wanna have to deal with 30 psi and 72lb+ injectors, unless you got the money for a fast system and wanna make a drag only car
also the people that may cry about buying race gas you can always use an alky system and basicly boost the same its almost like running with race gas
also honestly if your just want 15-20psi just get a l67 short block. your compression will be low enough be able to run 15 psi on pump easy and you should be able to run more then 20 psi easy on it. if a l67 short block cost 1000 bucks thats cheaper then the 600+ dollar pistons and the materials alone for the motor not even considering the labor to put it together if you dont know how , you want to go all out in terms of power and reliabity then yea go aftermarket if you want a tailor queen that can run the fastest but if you want good power at a decent price l67 short block is not a bad deal

Hey guys, well...i failed to mention that i still want to keep my car as a daily driver. But i have to say that i have little knowledge about motors, rebuilding them etc. But the L67 shortblock recommendation, are u guys saying to buy an entire L67 motor, strip it, and plop those parts into mine? Sorry, i'm just not very educated on this stuff. Also i would be happy to run at 15psi on "special days" and 12'sh on my regular days, that should be plenty of power for me. However, I'm still interested in doing headwork and dropping in a cam at the same time. Will the L67 parts be able to handle that much power? Will 12-15psi of boost with a cam and p&p'd heads work with stock injectors and stock tuning as well?
This idea to achieve 20psi sounded good, but i think i would be dumping way too much money into parts, this L67 suggestion sounds pretty good, but i just need some education on it, i just would like to know what the limits on it are.
thanks a billion for all the help.

use the l67 short block it will bolt to our heads you my need to swap the fly wheels but that should be about it be sides the top of the motor finding a slighty used short block could save you aloooot of money its more or less like throwing a used ls1 motor in , its used and you dont know how great of car was taken but with a short block it would be real easy to tell of something was infact messed up
with 12-15 psi you probably could get by with the injectors that gtps use but yea that motor should be fine for your needs its strong enough for gtp guys to run 11's in

Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
