How can a PCM designed for an aluminum block work on an iron block? I would think just the difference in the thermal qualities of the two would make the computers incompatible since aluminum dissipates heat waaaay faster than iron. Not really my area of expertise, but i'm kinda skeptical.

I don't think the PCM will be a problem, I just don't understand why you wouldn't keep the original motors computer. Someone educate me.

To name just one basic yet VERY important reason...our ECM sends signals to fire 6 spark plugs. How would it fire those other 2?? Lots of things like that that simply won't work the same.

Okay I didn't make myself clear enough. I meant keeping the computer that comes with the vortec engine instead of getting an LS1 computer. Your going to have to probably retune either one you use. As far as pin layout it maybe easier just to get the LS1 PCM, again I just don't know.

AHH! The 5.3L trucks probably have an almost identical computer as the 5.7L and 6.0L....again minor differences would be all. Say the truck will come with a tune better for low end power and torque than the f-body if I had to guess.

I'm curious to hear some opinions on this myself...either way i'm screwed because i have ODBI wiring so i have to rip apart all the wiring the accomodate the new engine. Sucks for me

Fred where in Cajunland are you?

Something else I'm wondering about, could a person put the 6.0 heads on the 5.3 block to lower the compression without shrouding the valves? I know you can put LS1 heads on and bring compression down to 9.4 or so but I would like it below 9 if we could get it. Thinking about the blower thing on top of this swap.

I've heard these haeads are interchangeable between all SBC's. Though i couldn't tell you about the valve shrouding. I do know LS1 guys use these heads raise and lower compression.

f-body LS1 harness... designed from teh factory for your vehicle.

Truck harness... designed for a truck. Most likely will need splicing, and extending/shortening.

                        That is why I would use a LS1 computer/Harness.

The programming is not a big deal between the 2, nothing that ls1edit would not fix.

you are right, as the motors are "similar" to the LS1's, But look into some minor/major differences, for example, the early 6.0's have a crank that has to be machined shorter, to work with a f-body transmission. Not sure if the 5.3 shares anyparts like that.

Been a while since i posted this, but i'm thinking about doing this again...

I dropped it for a while because i didn't have anywhere to do it.

Now i have a full garage with all the tools...

What do you guys think any new thoughts on this thread.

                          Things to consider

A Z28 4E60E will bolt straight up to the back

The mount locations are the same as the LS1.

The accessories from the LS1 can be used.

The intake and oil pan can be swapped with f-body/vette parts for clearance.

I can get this engine and a tranny here in mississippi for about 1500 with less than 20k miles on it whcih makes it a much more attractive swap than the LT1.

Is it POSSIBLE at all that a T56 will bolt up? Because I think a 6-speed 327 Fourth Gen would be awesome. Get the old-school 327 emblem and stick 'em on the front quarter panel, just like the old days.

Yes a T56 off of any V8 4th gen F-bosy will bolt up.
