LM7 (5.3L) and LQ4 (6.0L) are both Gen III sbc, like the LS1.

What about the Vortec 4.2 I6?

270hp out of a 6 sounds really nice. Plus it's assembled in Michigan as opposed to Mexico like the 5.3/6.0 and it's all aluminum rather than iron block. 4 valves per cylinder, VVT, 6300rpm redline and 10:1 compression make this a sporty motor. Shame GM only puts this engine in SUV's.

We know the 5.3L and 6.0L can fit without heavy modifications, it's the same dimensions as the LS1. Most of the stuff will just bolt up. I'm not sure about the 4.2 w/o heavy modifications.

the 4.2 has merrit but its almost as expensive as a 5.3 long block. you would also have the extra work of getting the engine mounts put in for that engine. also i just got an email back from rsbmotorsports saying the 427 stroker will work with the LQ4 i just have to send them some info on headgasket thicknes and block specificatons so they can get the compression to 8.5:1 where i want it (i gotta have my boost). also if you want to find some info on the blocks you really just need to go to the truck forums. i found a lot of good info on them about people boosting and stoking and all kinds of head options that are available. At this point i am deffinately saying goodbye to my v6 and hello to a ton of work on a v8.

And about 400 lbs, I'm going to have to turbocharge one of these someday(easy to do with an I6).

My dad has the 4.2L I6 in his trailblazer. Yeah it puts out 270hp but its nothing meant for performance at all. It wouldn't be wise to swap that into a camaro, that engine was built for SUV's. You'd have to drive it to understand what i'm talking about. You dont feel any of the punch until right before redline.

Yup, I've driven a Trailblazer. When I first stood on the gas I thought it was merely okay, until it got up to around 3000rpm, then it was awesome. It pulled progressively harder all the way up to redline. Had much more up top than my 3.4 which seems to pull pretty linear above 3k. I can only imagine that motor pulling something 1300lbs less.

                    Compare 4.2

That's interesting, but I still think the 5.3 has a lot more potential than the 4.2L.

that is because it is an 8 and wether we want to admit it or not an 8 has MORE postential. the 3800 is an amazingly strong engine and so is the 4.2 but GM really knows how to build a bad arse V8.

T-Punk, I'm curious what your building? Streetcar, or all out race car?

Just from personal experence around minnesota the only difference on the street between a 800hp Grand National, and an 1100hp LT1 twin turbo 383 iis that one has traction problems up to 80mph, the other has traction problems up to 110mph. I have no idea what your goals are, but how much "potential" do you really need?

this will become my all out balls to the walls track car and i will be getting a gtp or something similar for my daily driver once the engine goes into the firebird (probably when i'm out of college and making more money anyway). it would be insane to drive a car like this on the road i agree.
