Dont mind me, but dont the newer 5.3s share many of the same bolt patterns and designs as the LS1? Because last I knew many of the LS1 guys would swpa out their heads for the 5.3 truck heads because they had larger chambers, ports, and valves..

That's correct.. A 5.3 is a cast iron Gen III block.. so everything will transfer across, just as the 6.0's do.2000 Firebird. Not that I don't think this swap is a good idea; it is one of the few interesting topics in advanced tech.Matt
2000 Firebird

FullThrottleV6.com

Ok now that a v8 is actually cheaper than my turbo setup i'm thinking about going the way of the 8 and selling my turbos (got a guy with a v6 mustang drooling over them so it wont be a problem to unload them ;) ). My only questions are would a stroker kit for the ls1 work with this engine, and if i switch to the lsx intake and heads what parts from the ls1 would not work in this engine. i would assume all valvetrain, the cam, and really everything to carry over giving an abundance of performance parts. the only thing i would think would be different would be the exhaust and some accessories (basically external engine differences).2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

geez...when i was not having much luck with the SC & NOS...i decided to go with one...the cheaper one...NOS...but one of my ideas was to just get the bracket kit for the SC for an LS1 and put it on a Z28...too bad those turbos wont carry over! yeah it sucks cause i will eventually do a twin kit for the 8 if i get it but those two would be way way to small for that engine... maybe i'll be like chrysler and go crazy with a quad turbo haha. seriously though i am considering this if i coudl do a 383+ stroker it on it and if enough parts carry over from the ls1. another question do we know if the bore is the same as the ls1?2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

The 5.3 is a good motor, but there's sooo many more mods for the LS1, and it would be much easier to swap in. I think the 5.3 will bolt up to a 4L60, but certainly not a 5 or 6 speed manual. Also keep in mind that the oil pan is probably to deep and would scrape because it came from a truck.Black 1998 Pontiac Firebird A-4 swap
271.4rwhp/259.4rwtq NA
13.30@102.44
www.freewebs.com/wickedsix98

the 5.3 we are talking about is a gen III block just like the ls1 only not made out of aluminum and will bolt up to an ls1 k-member. if i can stroke it with kits made for the ls1 i will buy it. i think it will actually be better for me as i am a boost head and an aluminum block just makes me a little uneasy (not to sure why).2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

wait even the 6.0 is cheap as heell if you want to build it from the ground up, http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...spagename=WDVW . one exactly like that sold for slightly over 500! i am so going this rout now. I will keep working on the rest of the post turbo part of my twin turbo system and keep what can be reused from the pre turbo part of the system so i wont have much work to do to turbo the v8 after i get it up and running. I am so stoked right now.
Do you think this stroker kit would work with the 6.0L LQ4 block? http://www.rsbmotorsports.net/produc...f_id=BRA%2D427 something about the #427 that puts a big smile on my face :D but a 383 would still keep me happy.

I read in a magazine where this guy had a 402 crate motor with forged internals, 5 angle valve job, a hot cam, forced induction (believe it was a supercharger, dont' remember the specs) and a 6 speed. He had 675 brake hp. AND claimed he still could get 20 mpg at 70 mph on the freeway. With a say a .8 overdrive gear in the sixth slot.... do ya'll think its possible? I'm tempted to say yes b/c the 350 CI is easy to get 20 mpg out of in the c5... and the 402 isn't toooo much bigger. What ya'll think? Now, how badly do YOU want to see my brake lights?

Pacesetter headers, 3 inch y pipe, high flow cat, magnaflow catback, many suspension mods, intake, built a4 with 3200 torque converter, 5 angle head job, dis 4, firewires, etc etc....

the way you describe that engine i would say that 20mpg would be a pretty big stretch plus is this a gen I, II, or III block? makes a big difference.2001 Arctic White Firebird With Black Drop Top

3:42 Gears
Zexel LSD
BMR upper A-Arms
Trans Am exhaust with 3\" I-pipe and cutout
Modified intake
Mecham Hood
Trans Go shift kit
Making rear control arms and panhard

I missed this thread back then, but this swap seems very unique and attractive for my pocketbook. The only thing I'd be worried about it the weight.
If you think about it, some of the higher boost S/C and Turbo'd cars have iron engines swapped in. It's an awesome idea for a S/C'd 327 with a 6 speed in a 4th gen. :D
This thread is making me think, I'm going to visit some truck forums and see how these things handle boost. :D2001 Black Z28 M6
Sprayed, slotted, geared and more~
