Sorry to post this, i know to search...but i litterally have to make this decision in hours, and i would like some real time advice as i am searching.
I just got a good quote to install a cam and i will need to order the cam by tomorow at the latest to get it to work. Basically my set up is stock. I have a intake. The only other things i am looking into upgrading are my pullies, headers, exhaust(or cut out), and maybe a little portwork, but nothing big. This is my low milage daily driver and i love the fact that i get 22 mpg around town and over 30 on the freeway...but she needs more power. So basically i want to throw a cam in her and maybe upgrade that valvetrain while i am at it. So i am asking what cam i should do? From what i have read so far for what i am looking for i only want to do the GT1 right...cause another big thing is i don't want to loose low end torque and i don't want to shift my powerband to high. If the GT2 isn't to bad i wouldn't mind using it...just wondering what you all think i should do because time is of the essance.

Yay you have no mods and want a cam first? Figure before you drop $300 for the cam plus $100 for the install kit plus $350+ for the install, drop like $500 on headers and full exhaust.

Don't rush car decisions. And you could always buy your cam from our classifieds section.

i think you should get more supporting mods before you get a cam, definitely get exhaust before cam or else you will have a MAJOR bottleneck right there. But if you are going to get a cam anyways, the GT-1 is good, but the GT-2 is better you are gonna have to replace valve springs, retainers, and mabe lifters for the 2 though. Nightrida has the GT2 with a rumbler and it sounds mean as hell, i would definitely go for that combo, but the TSP rumbler is very very loud. You should be fine with a Magnaflow, but i hate flowmaster, mine sucks (4bangerish) up high, but it sounds alright down low. So dont get a flo...

I am not a newbie...i know what i should go with first and what not, but i also know that when a shop tells me that if i can get the cam to them by wednesday they will install it, my spacer, and my pullie all for 150 that it is a good enough deal to cut some corners. Plus i work at a shop and we get better prices on compcams...instead of the normal 300 cam plus 100 install kit plus shipping i can get it all for 300 shipped and taxed. So 450 for a cam installed is something i just can look past! I will do the supporting mods later, cause there price isn't going anywhere anytime soon.

A cam is definetly not a decision that should be made "in hours". This is a serious mod that needs to be fully thought out. You're only setting the stage for disaster. Best advice: Skip the cam. Wait till you can think it through and do some research.

Then why are you asking questions like a newb?

By install kit I didn't mean lifters, etc, I meant something with lots of gaskets / bolts / tensioner / timing chain, like ZZP sells.

Yeah, that is what i ment too...i have done tones of research on cams and everything, but if you have read a single one of my posts, you would know that no matter how simple or complex the mod, before i do it/make my final decision i allways reduce the question back to its bare minimums and get the advice of everyone that i can...hell i even did that before i bought my springs. That is just how i choose to ask my questions before i do the final mod.
