SERIOUSLY,is a V8 swap worth it

Well people Im seriously debating swaping out my 3.8L for a 5.7. but honestly Im wondering if its worth it??? the engine has bout 121,000 miles on it all highway driven, no problems at all,But thats the reason that I havent put a lot of money in the engine. In all honesty its the best engine Ive dealt with. so Id love some pro's and con's, comments concerns, suggestions.

if you've got the means I think its worth it, assuming you're happy with the body, interior and other things regaurding you're car.

Short answer: If you like the way you're car looks, handles feels and are willing to keep it for a few more years i'd do it.

yeah i agree with teal, its just a lot of money and another option is just buying another f-body with a 5.7 in it. u can find people selling them everywhere. a good place to look for them is www.ls1tech.com if ur considering it...

Honestly, no. It is easier to sell your car and buy a car with the engine you want.

Now if you can get the parts reasonably priced and can do all the work yourself, then it is probably worth it, if you have the time.

A mechanic buddy of mine can get me a LS1 for 600 with aluminum heads. its been sitting up for a year so I have to so some rebuilding, and get a wiring harness. how does that sound?

if you want to go faster, why not just get a power adder? I used to have an LS1, but ended up with my V6 and I LOVE it. Get a super charger or turbo or even nitrous.

if you do do the swap and you want the power of the ls1 minus the price try to find a lt4 engine not to mention its cast iron compared to the ls1 aluminoum

lt4s arent that great. youre better off finding a lt1(which can be had for dirt cheap) rebuild it with better heads(lloyd elliot P&P lt1 heads and intake) i nice cam(gm 847 or cc306)along with other valvetrain upgrades, and have in the upper 300rwhp at your sevice.

keep in mind there is alot more to swapping motors than just swapping out the engine. rear,pcm and wiring harness,tranny etc also need to be changed.

if you have the cash, go for it. OR you could just rebuild the 3.8 and go turbo or nitrous(or even turbo and nitrous) and have a kick *** sleeper car. which i think everyone here can agree is more impressive than having a v8 swap.

also remember suspension mods... youll have to but new springs and shocks, sway bars, etc buy a new car or turbo

Heh if you're happy with it and don't mind the job go ahead. You will get a **** load of performance boost, and the tranny if its an auto will hook right up with a new flexplate and toruqe convertor. So, in all in all, plenty worth it as long as you don't mind doing the work, or paying someone to do it.

Are you saying an v6 auto tranny will hook right up to a v8 with only a new convertor? Hmmmm, if so...well i shouldnt think like that..my engine still has lots of live. What is a flexplate?

Bellhousing is also different. Won't "hook right up." There are other differences between the two that would make it a good idea to go with a V8 tranny.
