  • o2 sensor OHM resistance??

ok, The SES light is on in my car. I think that it is the o2 sensor that is after the cat. But I don't want to spend the $60 just to get the car scanned if that is it. So I was wondering if I could put a resistor in the sensor to make it "think" it is running with a stock cat. This way I can spend ~$5 to see if I am right instead of $60. anyone ever done this? TIA

If i am not mistaken, the O2 sensor reacts with the emissions to PRODUCE voltage. Its not like the IAT sensor at all. You could get an O2 simulator, but it probably costs the same. Someone should make an adjustable 02 sensor, so you can make your car run lean or rich with it.

DO NOT check resistance of O2 sensor. you may check resistance of the heating element for the sensor, but NOT THE SIGNAL WIRE.

check for voltage produced. engine running, hot, should vary quickly between about .2-.8 v.AC

you can also test with a propane torch and a voltmeter.
