  • 3400 top end swap

Has anyone here, aside from Russel, done the 3.4 3400 top end swap? I sent Russel and e-mail and he has not yet returned it. I just bought a 3400 intake manifold, and an going to buy the heads very soon. If anyone else has done this please let me know, so I have someone else to help me through this as well. All help welcome, thanks.

    Chris,
I am currently putting together a parts list to do exactly this. I hired an engine builder to do my work because I have no time; however, I will be happy to share any information I have.

Search through Russel's past posts. He has posted loads a great information already. Other people to talk to are andrew.brandon, white95, and VIPER98885. The last one is Josh at FTPP.net where I will be getting my parts from.

What specific questions do you have?

Can you do just a top end (upper manifold) swap ? I mean I know you have to change out the heads and pistons or something, but can you just swap the upper intake manifold for better flow?

And don't expect FTPP.net to deliver as soon as you want, I'm still waiting on my heat tape I ordered on the 27th of last month, 2nd time this has happened.

Be careful when asking Josh your questions too. He told me that all of the injectors they sell will fit my 2000 'bird, and everyone knows that aint going to happen.

Do the casting numbers for the heads make much of a difference? If so which should I get, I'm not too concerned if they are the grand am gt heads or not, ill put roller rockers and such on myself.

You need the heads and the intake it's both not just one or the other.

I know that, but I read in an ebay auction for the heads thatsomeone returned them after purchase due the heads not working, something checking the casting numbers. What should I look for as far as thats concerned. I already have the upper and lower plenums, and I would like to know what else I need aside from the intake and heads. I know that I will also need the 3400 throttle body and larger injectors. what else? Does anyone else know what Russell's alternator relocation bracket looks like?
