• problems with cam?

I know that some guys over at clupgp.com are havig some problems with the thrasher, and ZZP cam (ZZp cam is made by comp cams). The problem is with springs getting "over used" and binding. Which is causig other engine problems. So does anyone know how tom's cam relates to the ZZP and thrasher cams? What is the lift a duration of tom's cam? TIA

had they bought stronger springs? first thing tom told me was that he recommended stiffer springs. not because he is trying to make more money, but that is real customer service.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

Tom measured the stock springs to hold a total lift of .450. The total lift with the SSM grind cam is .450, the Thrasher cam raises the lift above .450 and that is why springs are breaking. I haven't had any problems with my stock springs on the junkyard motor I have in there now. I think Tom has some springs for sale now that work with stock locks and retainers. If you plan to have the heads ported it's worth the extra $250 for new springs that can handle .520 lift and then you can run more lift with your custom grind cam.

thanks! ya the whole problem that the GTP guys were having is that the lift was to close to the limits of the springs, and causing them to bind. I want new springs though, I got to many miles on the stock ones to run any type of cam/rocker

Mine has been doing fine and I've had it since june of '01. And I do run it hard. Like Mike said, the lift is set at .450", but even w/ that safe lift, I plan on getting the titanium springs once rebuild time comes (hopefully this summer)
