Can't get through emmissions

So I take my car to emmissions and get it tested, they forgot to chalk the car so it allmost jumped off the damn rollers when they started but anyways.........
1st test:
hydrocarbons: got 3.55 am allowed.80 =failed
carbon monoxide: got 73.32 am allowed 12.00 =failed
oxides of nitrogen: got 1.35 am allowed 2.00 =passed

2nd test replaced both o2 sensors
hc's got .86 allowed .80
carbon monoxide got 10.09 allowed 12.00
OXIDES OF NITROGEN GOT 3.30 ALLOWED 2.00...WTF

3rd test lots of alchohol
hc's still .86
carbond mono. 5.41
oxides of nitrogen 2.31

I'm getting closer but how did oxides of nitrogen get worse and what can i do to get through this is getting expensive, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Do you still have your cat?
Was your car REALLY well warmed up before the test?
Did you try a can of "guaranteed to pass" additive?

never really been good diagnosing problems from gas readings but I just suggest that you check all your emission controle devices. Like pcv, erg, cat and anytning else that you can think of that could possible have to do with emissions.

32 ounces of guarunteed to pass were added and all it did was make my carbon monoxide go down but nothing with the others.
Do egr valves have anything to do with emmissions and if so what do they have to do in the process of cleaning gass?

P.S. car is a 95 3.4

Change your oil. The egr 'recirculates' exhaust gases through the intake. The idea is to make sure that the pollutes are burned to help cut down on the emissions. (Please don't ask how, I am not a chemist). When was the last time the oil was changed? It makes a huge difference.

Looks like your cat is shot...try taking a light smack at it when its cool and see if u here anything rattling around... Your NOx levels were low on the original test, so your egr is fine. You get high levels of NOx when your egr is busted because the exhaust gases dilute the a/f mixture and keep cylinder temps down...higher the temp, the more likely to get NOx gases. The cat converts the remaining HC's and CO2 into water vapor and molecular carbon. I would get that cat checked out/throw in one borrowed from a buddy for the test. Please don't castrate me if any of this information is wrong, just correct me. Thanks.

Is there any way around the test?? In Ohio, there is an option to pay a fee to skip the test, or a limit in how much you have to spend to pass the test.

The cat does not rattle at all it's somewhat new, I have it flanged so I can take it on and off and it's only been on for about 50 hours of usage total if that.

So if the egr valve is bad it will fail emmissions but it will only fail carbon or what? I'm not to clear on what you posted about it converting gases I know you said your not a chemist but you definately know something I don't.

The reason you passed oxides of nitrogen(nox) the first time is because your car was running rich (too much fuel). After you replaced the o2 sensors and the pcm started to control the fuel again your nox went through teh roof. Nox is caused by high exhaust temperature (2500 degrees and above) A rich fuel mixture burns cooler than a lean mixture. The main purpose of the egr valve is to help cool the exhaust temperature by returning the exhaust gasses to the intake to be reburnt and therefore cooling the exhaust temperature. Make sure that your egr valve is hooked up and functioning properly. Over advanced timing will also cause high nox. If all of the systems on your car are in good working condition and haven't been overly modified then by looking at your gas readings you need a cat..but only if everything else has been proven to be in good working condition.

That makes sense about the egr valve because one of its discs are broken and it makes an exhaust leak noise like there's no tommarrow.

My oil isn't more than 2000 miles old, and what exactly does that have to do with emmissions.
