I've recently been thinking about buying a cam for my 3.4 liter V6. Can you guys recommend a good cam? The only mods I have are ram air and an exhaust, is there anything else I should do before a cam? Also, maybe a seat of heads. I know i'm asking a lot, but i'm just sorta dumbfounded on this.

So you want Heads/Cam but you don't want to pay $1000 dollars? Ain't gonna happen. The heads+cam alone are gonna cost at least $800, and by the time you get all the gaskets and misc parts required, you'll easily be over a grand. My heads/cam project ended up being over $2000.
If you only have intake + exhaust then you've got alot more work to do anyways.Matt

Most of the shelf cams are good, and relatively cheap. The custom grinds are a lot stronger, but are a little harder to get to run right. If any of you need some help, drop me a line or give me a call and I will try to talk you through it. I know I have helped a few of you with your 3.4s so if anyone else needs the advice, lemme know.- Josh
If you have any questions or need installation pics/help, e-mail me: Viper98885@aol.com
\'93 Camaro Hardtop
\'01 Lincoln LS8 Sport
\'00 Yamaha YZF-R6
Full Throttle Performance

$1000 for heads and cam?
All the new gaskets will be about $120, the cam $200 at most, lifters another $70 or so.
Then I guess you will have to have some one install them.
If you are going to get your Heads ported get a larger cam like the crane 2-272-H. It is on the larger end, I don't know of any one that has one and does not like it. I'm on my second one.
There are plenty of people that are not happy with there smaller cam.
These heads arn't going to flow a hole lot no matter what you do to them. You can spend a lot of money on them and they still won't flow much more then 150cfm at .45'' lift with 28'' of water with the intake on. Stock they flow about 117cfm.
You might want to think about taking that 5 angle valve job money and put it tord roller rockers. I just don't think it is a good place to spend money on these heads.
Do get heads with ported and polished runners and chambers.\'85 Z28, T-tops new LG4 and TH700
\'85 3.4L 5-speed
mods: http://www.cardomain.com/id/oil_pan_4 the nitrous exhaust O2 safety, pg 3.
Areo space materal engineer wantabe

I have a GM Performance Parts cam. Its been ok, but it runs rich as hell, cause it doesnt have a cam sensor tab. Next one I will do is a custom grind. I think that is the only way to go. It takes tolong to explain the cam sensor tab thing, just make SURE, that when you get a aftermarket cam, ask whoever if it has the stock cam sensor tab on it. If it doesnt, dont buy it, and look some more. ;)Jordan
15.09@90.7
1995 Camaro 3.4 M5

I don't have stupid SFI and forgot you will need a cam with a sencor tab.
Pick out a big cam or get a total custom grind and have one custom ground on a core with a sencor tab.\'85 Z28, T-tops new LG4 and TH700
\'85 3.4L 5-speed
mods: http://www.cardomain.com/id/oil_pan_4 the nitrous exhaust O2 safety, pg 3.
Areo space materal engineer wantabe

well i had something like this going last month. josh helped me narrow it down to the edelbrock performer plus. it has the cam trigger thing that all 3.4s need, it has an LSA of 112 so it will run smoothly, and even though its not that drastic it will definitely give the 3.4 a nice kick in the pants. i cant wait and about the headwork, do it yourself. i got a used set for 175 and just started the valve job and am going to p&p them soon. the labor is going to be the fun part. in all it wont cost more than 1000 buckaroos 1995 Bright Red 3.4L
Carmen\'s Page
