Where do most people take there heads/intake manifold to get ported and polished?? How is the process done?? What the price tag for this too???

i have a set of ported heads, i'd sell em to ya for 200, my friend did them, h has ported a lot of 302 heads, and said he'd do mine for me, but now im gonna be using alumnium heads [img]smile.gif[/img]

If you ever look at stock cast heads, almost all of them have terrible casting imperfections and large impediments to airflow. While the hand drill isn't the "best" way to get the job done, it worked for my buddy's 350 heads. In the perfect world you would want an air powered drill and a good compressor to match, buy if you don't have them a hand power drill will work fine. You'll just be switching batteries often and taking breaks to let them recharge. It will take a little more time, but if you want to save money and would rather spend time it will be just fine. You're lucky in that you have 4 less ports to do.
Professional porting is going to cost you a good chunk of cash. I wouldn't think of it as a good investment of money unless you want a full port/polish job for a HO motor. Simple porting you can do to stock castings will return you a good amount of power.

That should help you on your way, as you can see he rented the air compressor, and I'm sure he was able to cut through those heads like butter, but again, that equipment costs money if you don't have it, and the hand drill works.

If you have a shop do the work they will probably charge you 300-500$ for a simple porting job, they will remove stock casting imprefections, round out hard edges, remove excess material and flow impediments and enlarge the ports. Nothing you could not do for yourself for 150$ in materials and some time.
For a full port/polish job you will run anywhere from 1000-2000$ and that would be done on a 5 Axis CNC most likely. It will have a consistency and flow unlikely reachable from doing it by hand and will go beyond just removing excess material. Again, probably not worth it to you.
