• drop in LS2?

http://www.gmpartsdirect.com/results...umber=12499750

i am thinking instead of buying a trans-am in about 5 or so years, i could just drop a new engine in my car. would a ls1/ls2/ls7 fit inside of the v6 firebird?

rule number one of c/fv6.com: never, ever, ever, under any circumstances search for info that might have been previously posted.

short answer: yes, dimensionally those motors will fit. i think we've had 3-4 people on this very site swap V8s, both LS1s and LT1s.

All but the LS2 will work...thus far, the LS2 has not been able to be put into an F-body, alot of that due to the fact that it is drive-by-wire throttle (like the Vettes they come in). It could be done, but not cost effectively yet.

um the only other post in either general or advanced tech that even has ls7 in the entire thread was titled 'More damn problems..Gremlins..' which didnt even have ls7 actually in it...

seems like talking about LS engines is forbidden here...

That's because it's been talked about so many times. A quick search on "engine swap" gives 158 threads.

The "LS7" was an RPO code for floor mats as I recall, or something rather mundane like that. The LS1 or LS6 engine (from 5 feet away you can't tell the difference, and many can't right up close) will both fit just the same and many have done that swap.

Correct, the LS7 is an upgraded LS2, just like the LS6 is an upgraded LS1. ;)

the LS7 will fit, but it is also drive by wire throttle (as far as i know). the C5R 427 is the same size and it fits nicely into a few F-bodys. Just go with an LS1! its easy and garunteed to work because so many people have done that swap before. BTW you can buy an LS1 from Lingenfelter for like 7k if you have a few bucks in your wallet, and its rated at 430hp

you're also going to need the V8 front shocks to support the weight, the radiator (since i believe its reverse flow?), the PCM, the transmission (since i believe the bolt pattern is different?), and the fuel pump..to save time and money..you could just buy the car...... :D

LS6 is an LS1 with heads, cam, intake, and a stronger block.

the ls6 makes around 385 hp right?
which is cheaper, to buy an T/A with a ls1 and have it upgraded to an ls6.. or to just switch out the v6 and throw in a ls6?
