a gm ls1 engine is rated at 320-325 hp. but every test ive seen done on a brand new ls1 crat engine dynoed 400 hp at the flywheel with stock corvette exhaust manifold and intake. the ls6 has the same block as teh ls1, it is not stronger. the z06 different heads and cam. the 98-00 i think ls1 has a ls1 intake. all 2001 and newer ls1's have the ls6 intake.

the ls2 is just a revised and little bit bigger ls1. the ls2 has like 363 or 364 cid compared to the ls1s 346 cid. the ls7 is not the c5-r block. they both however are 427's.

for the 2002 35th anniv. ZL-1's they fit 427 c5-r engines in quite a few camaro it can be done.

an ls1 corvette can beat a stock z06with a few mods. the z06 isnt that much more powerful. the z06 does have a beefier clutch revised tranny for the ls6 w/ better gear ratios and alot of suspension work. the z06 is meant to be faster but also handle like a mofo.

if you putting money into your car now like supension, stereo, body work like gfx hoods, and what not, i would just swap it later on. if you going to keep it stock and not put money into your v6 then i would just sell it later and buy a v8.

im going to get my car to handle and look good. by time im done it would be logical to sell it for a v8 and start all over. so when the time comes ill get a ls series engine. as far as swapping in old technology, the ls series make HP and lots of it. look at the old 69 camaros their old carb technology but they can still whoop your @$$ and most cars out there too. if you worried about keeping up you dont need a new engine. just mod it and the ls series respond well to mods.

the ls7 does have 500 HP and 475 TQ

and apparently the ls7 wont go
If I were you I would just go with the LS1. If your choice is between the LS1 and LS6, just go with the LS1 and put a better cam in it and it will be cheaper in the long run. When I did the swap into my car, I went with an LS1 I built here at Thunder Racing, and put in a TR220, and did a baby set of 5.7 heads that have just a valve job and minor port work, and i put out 408.8rwhp untuned with mac mid-length headers.

Honestly the swap wasn't that hard. I guess I can say that because I had two people here at the shop helping me. I took my time building the motor, but when it actually came down to taking the v6 out and putting the LS1 in, it took just about 2 days to do. Most of the work was the racetronics fuel system and swapping the v6 4l60e for a t-56.

I just got an LS1 wiring harness for a 6-speed. You only have to do a small bit of wiring. The v8 coil packs run off two wires, while the v6 runs off of one. So you have slice into one wire and get power to that second coil pack wire and that will take care of the wiring for the harness.

not understanding the part where i buy a T/A ls1 only to switch it out
Whats so wrong with leaving in the LS1? You can spend about 2-3 grand and get the son of a ***** running like a raped ape...LS1's are sweet.

its not cost effective anymore to drop a V-8 in a V-6 trans am/camaro. For the money it would take to get that done, you could have boughten an LS-1 version of the same car, for far less. And there are so many ways to improve the HP/Torque on the LS-1, and you wouldn't even notice the difference between it and an LS-6. Plus what are your experiences driving 400-500hp cars? If the most powerful car youve driven is your 3800 series V6, then you dont need anywhere near 500hp. The 330 in a V-8 firebird will be plenty to scare the he11 out of you
