  • Is advanced tech becoming not so advanced?

    What do you guys think? Should Mike and I be more strict?

    Topics I question but don't do anything about but perhaps should:
    HPP3 comming, any advice? (Basic mod)
    Accel Xmas Gift (Ignition)
    my 2.8 stalling (Vauge, Advanced is not gen tech)
    car is dead! (Vauge)
    Traction Control... (Drivetrain)

    And then... topic descriptions.. I look at the forum and can't tell what the heck is what!!! Here's what I mean:

    Is a good cam for my car? ->
    Is this a good NA cam for my car? 212/212 112

    I need a cam ->
    I need a blower cam for stock heads. Advice?

    Grand Prix Comp cam ->
    Grand Prix Comp cam any good for NA?

    Buick Roller Rockers ->
    Will Buick Roller Rockers work on 3.8?

    where would i stand?? ->
    i have no idea about this one. *shrug*

    I know cam's have been discussed to death, but.. ->
    Will 200/212 cam work well with my na setup?

    Cam on stock engine ->
    Recomend a cam for stock setup (OR SEARCH??)

    Add Lightning, Instant Monster! ->
    i have no clue....

    How Hard is It............... ->
    how hard is what?

    for the few of you that haven't seen it yet ->
    Tom@Supersix has 3.4 package out! Check it!

    Engine Swap ->
    What engine are you swapping in??

    Basic cam question ->
    A Basic cam question should be able to fit in the subject

    Some titles I like:
    tell me what this a-tap reading means
    Any cut a hole for a fuel pump replacement??
    UPDATE--Dave Smith Performance Heads for 3.8!!!
    What would happen if you over tighten the Rocker Bolts?
    Will i need custom tuneing with my cam
    Will somethig like this work for timing control
    N/A engines tuning with maft or maft+
    Custom 1.9 Intake valve for the 3.8L heads now

    What do you guys think?

    ALso, if i picked your post for a not so great topic don't take it offensively. I have no gruge against your or anything I'm just trying to get topics to be a little more descriptive..

    A subject should tell a little bit about what the topic is about, perhaps even ask the question that you're looking for an answer to instead of Help!, Will this work?, What should I do?, How do I...?, etc. etc..

    So how about some oppinions.

        Yes i agree that advanced tech is not so advanced as well i use to read the whole board but i got tired of hearing the same question over and over. Cause people cant use the search button. So i started reading the advanced tech and it really got me in tune with my car and what stuff ment hell i went from a 14.8 to a 14.34 with the same mods I just learned more about my stall and some lightweight ideas. But it seems like i dread looking in advanced tech every time i read the opening topic is this good or what do i do. And granted they my be good topics but most dont belong here and the ones that do need to be more descritive. Im dont ranting now. Thanks for listening.

          rant away..

          I really appreciate it when you guys reply to a post and already suggest it be moved... or locked, or just any reason why you think it doesn't belong.

            I used to find lots of good info and very interesting threads in advanced tech. Latley they have all been the same. I dont think advanced tech is as good as it was because all the questions are the same or questions that could be answered by searching through older threads. I think alot of the questions are being ignored because alot of us are tired of answering a thread that has the exact same topic 5 threads below this one. Advanced tech used to be unique. Now its same old topics "what cam should I get for my daily driver" . These topics get old. I think everyone should search for topics related to there question and they will find that it has been answered several times already. If you search and dont find your answer then its a good time to post. And advanced tech to me means in depth question and answers. Not "will GN rocker arms fit" thats a streight up yes or no answer and there is no discusion in that topic. Yes or no answers should be in general help. I think alot of the new people have problems using the search tool. Every time somebody comes in asking about what cam to get you look and they are brand new. I think if they dont know what cam to get they should search and find other threads with cam recomendations. They can even look in the tech section and look at all the cams board members run. And I have seen couple of threads where new guys ask what cam to get and they get recomended a bunk *** cam that wont work so well in our engines. And as much as I complain about this I look back to previous posts that I have posted and a few times I have asked "what cam to get" . So it may be a rookie thing but I think we need to reinforce that people need to use the search tool. I am rambling......

            Bottom line, yes some threads need to be moved and yes advanced tech discusions should be more strict.

              Maybe there is a way to get a search bar at the top of advanced tech that might cut out one step for some of the lazy ones i just wish there was a way to filter such key words. I really think there is alot of good info out there. We just need to keep the forum strick like have an out post that says search and throw a link to the search bar. And lock post then delete the post within 24 hours. Maybe an auto post like this:

              Your Topic exsits already please use the search feature Search Page. This Topic is now Locked, and will be deleted within 24 hours. Thank You.

                          fstv6camaro, posting like that is not away to get respect around here.

                          All these replies are great from the rest of you and I agree with what is said. There are a lot of repeat posts, especially about cams. I remember being one of the first to have a 3.8 cam and used to offer a lot of suggestions about installs, etc. All my info is out there in the search engine, I'm just tired of answering the same questions, just as you are tired of reading them.

                          I think we do need to enforce the search feature more and delete repeated posts so they don't show up under a search.

                              Keith, I like having the advanced section strict!
                              This is for advanced only!
                              A majority of the posts can be relocated to other more appropriate forums.
                              Also, people, try a search first.
                              When entering search words be very broad. If you are extremely specific then you will get no suggested links.
                              I spend many hours just reading posts in this section.
                              I very rarely post in here because some of the topics are way over my head.
