Once again thanks for all the kind words, support and recomendations.

I agree about fstv6camaro however, this is not the post for that.. This is the post where we discuss format changes and general conduct of the soley the advanced tech section..

In all honestly, general tech has gotten so bland I never read it.. ever.. it bores me to no end. Only time I reply is when I see a topic that I can contribute to on the main page.

I think being a tad more strict would be a good thing.

For one, it makes searching more useful because everything is where its supposed to be.

Vague topics should also be harped on a little bit -- if for no other reason than to help the person who posted. I myself skip over a lot of that stuff.

I agree with ravenp, however, the general tech really is awfully watered down.

      Maybe "Maintenance" and "General Performance"

btw, imho, you can't break it down too much -- makes searching easier & faster. Lord knows I spend enoguh time searching & reasearching on this site & the other v8 sites (esp ls1.com & ls1tech.com -- for things like suspension & brakes, etc), and I must say, I really like the divisions in place at firebirdv6.com -- it can get a little touchy to find topics at those v8 sites because a lot of their categories are much too broad.

I would like to point out this topic:
        HPP3 comming, any advice?

Dominic replied, "Post things like this in general tech, not advanced, please? Thanks "

Thinks like that really help out a lot. It gives mike an I an idea of how you guys feel about a topic and where it belongs this way we don't have to analyze it for a few minutes debating.

This guy is really annoying. He will not catch Magnus' record because Magnus has the 'I will be best' attitude about his car, which is good for the V6 community, it keeps us getting faster. Also, even if fastv6 did take the number 1 position, he couldn't offer the technical advice that Magnus does which makes him so valuable to the site. He has helped a lot of us with engine problems, and mod advice, so we all owe him a thanks.

Also, I agree that advanced tech needs more restriction. Mainly with the broad questions asked, and the broad topics to good questions. Keep everything as specific as possible!

            We all love you Magnus!

            LOL

Strict is the way to go. We need the mods to be the "Post Nazi's" and delete, move everything that has the possibility fo being general. Repeated cam questions should just be deleted. No explanation needed. Maybe a cam selection guide some place would be a good idea too. I like the idea of splitting general tech into maintenance and simple mods.

              Thanks.

Splitting up forums or renaming is currently out of the question..

I did go through all the topics, i mean EVERY one in advanced seciton and cleaned it up a little.

We will definately be more strict here.

Yesterday I updated the technical database main page.. conformed it to the format the rest of the site uses..

I still have lots to add to the engine section..

Regarding cam talk.. people REALLY need to search more, but i don't see cam advice posts ending any time soon. :(

One thing to note though, is there are no cam experts regarding our setups.. We just don't have enough experience. Most of the knowledge we dicuss is based on theory. I believe 212/212 112 works well but a 206/206 112 MAY be more ideal for a daily driver... but in theory it wouldn't be.. just an example.

That's why I am inclined to make up cam specs and say they will be good ;)

I agree with what everyone is saying about having a cam guide as a pinned post at the top of the forum. Maybe we could get all the cammed 3.8 guys together for a discussion on how their cams affected their cars. I.E. How the cam sounds (choppy), what kinds of gains they received, if it set off any error codes, if there are problems idling, if they work with stock heads, etc. After that we could make a really comprehensive cam guide of sorts and stick it at the top of the forum for newbie's to read. This should take care of alot of the redundancy of threads and give everyone a centralized place to look for cam info.

Just an idea, but can we limit who gets to post in the advanced section? Either by number of posts or moderators only let certain people in? Let everybody view the section still of course, just some how limit who can post.

Anouther idea, can we have a not advanced section dealing with the same topics where everybody can post?

Just a few ideas I had while I'm waiting for somebody that knows a lot about AutoTap to lend light to my problem. http://www.camarov6.com/cgi-bin/ulti...&f=16&t=001214

I dont know if thats a good idea. I think it would single out alot of people who want to post legit information in advanced tech.

first off, i dont necessarily see the problem with information being reposted and re-discussed and reanswered. if someone uses the search feature to get a basic understanding and then posts on his/her specific situation i think that is beneficial to the community. the more (correct) information the better. i know that when i do a search i love to see 25 topics on a subject im curious about instead of just one thread.

                          and in response to this:

i dont think anyone here will shut up if you beat magnus' times. even if you somehow manage to beat his NA, which i doubt will happen. he had been here for the community forever and has helped out an uncountable number of people with all sorts of problems. you on the other hand come on here acting like your gods f'in gift to cars, and shooting your mouth off in every direction. sure, if you can prove youre the fastest, you will be adknowleged as such. but that is all. with an attitude like yours you will still never earn any of our respect.

good luck in your quest for number 1.

your v6 might be fast, and you might know a ton about cars, but you apparently still have a lot to learn.

Yeah, it would be too difficult to limit the content by trying to determine who will and will not post legitamate advanced topics. The only thing to do is to constantly monitor what is going on. Maybe elect me official Non-Advaned-Topic-DeL337er, with all powers necessary and proper for carrying out this task. I don't want Mod poweres, just Strong Bad like "DELETED" powers ;)

Since my topic was one that was 'singled out' I'll respond in kind.

                                i have no clue....

My post (and its attendant humorous subject) was about the topic of taking a 3.8 from a 1998 and dropping it into an old Volvo 244. I consider such a swap to BE advanced tech, and more difficult than a cam swap or a spark plug change. Correct me if I'm mistaken here.

I suppose, in my opinion, finding out what I was talking about was no more difficult than opening it up and looking. You ask people to use the search function but by the same token, you don't even look to see what people are writing in their posts.

In the Impala SS community, the percentage of owners that posess and USE their FSM (field service manuals) is pretty high. Over here, its practically nonexistant. Yes, its a 100.00 for a set of books, but its invaluable to have. I've actually posted a few tidbits from the sets I own.

My take, from 15+ years of moderation and forum running, the more you squeeze something, the more it wants to slip out of your fingers. Want to ruin a board and turn it into a ghost town, crack down on people that are trying to learn. No one here hasn't posted a dumb/uninformed/mistaken bit of information at one time or another. There is a learning curve for everyone, and don't be so quick to punish people that aren't over that curve yet.
