i was wondering about putting a 3.8L out of the newer camaros into my 94 3.4L. Is it worth doing or could i get just as much horse out of my 3.4L than i could with a 3.8L? I wouldn't put no nos, supercharger, or trubocharger on it. just regular mods so to say. could i put the 3.8L in my car without any major mods. do you think it would bolt right up???

I have heard that it is actually more difficult to swap a 3.8 in than an Lt1. If you're gonna do a motor swap you might as well do it right and put an 8 in it.1995 Pontiac Firebird 3.4L
TA front bumper, TA rear bumper, 98-02 Honeycomb tailights, GM Ram Air hood, 2k C5 18X9.5 Corvette rims all the way around, custom autoloc shaved handles, camaro two tone interior, silver badging, clear front marker lenses, RK sport headers, gutted cat, dynomax dual exhaust, Rear disc rearend, Richmond 3.73 gears, Zexel torsen LSD, Cross drilled front rotors, 2 12\" MTX thunder 8000s, Clarion 400W amp, MTX 5 1/4
Components, thunder 4262 amp, pioneer head unit, Hypertech power programmer (Yes it does exist)

Well if you drop the V8 in your V6 car, to the insurence company, you still have a V6 car, just dont brag to the agent. I have a 1995 3.4 and i too wanted the 3.8 in my car, but for other reasons. I want to have a 13sec daily driven supercharged V6 LT1 killer. Modifying a stock 3.4 is a loosing battle unless you replace the factory cast pistons to forged units. I personally hate LT1's, especially since you can take a stock 3.8 with NOS agenst a stock LT1 with NOS and they both run low 13s with a 80hp shot. Go figure...Ric Johnson
----------------
1995 Pro AM III #12
3.4 A4
KN FIPK intake with ram air mod
Flowmaster exhaust
RKSport IAT sensor
ASP Underdrive pullys
TB Bypass
PF52 larger oil filter
3.42 non posi rear end
DeCarbon Trans Am shocks
Eibach pro series springs
B&M Shift Plus+ (best $40 ive ever spent)
Custom made billet alum front end inserts
Interior trim painted to match the car
Awia CD player with factory bose sound system
Viper alarm system
http://www.proam.webhop.org/

You will not run 13s without NOS unless you want to spend some serious dollars in a total engine rebuild with good pistons and alot of head and fuel injection work, even then you might not. A stock internal 3.4 with the cast piston's cant take much of any power adders like NOS or forced induction. There are 2 stock 3.8's in my town that run 13s all day long, with NOS, but those engines can handle it stock. If you seriously want to go 13s, sell the 3.4, youll never see it without a huge budget. It would be cheaper to have a turbo 3.8 from a turbo regal installed then to make a 3.4 run 13s without NOS or forced induction.Ric Johnson
----------------
1995 Pro AM III #12
3.4 A4
KN FIPK intake with ram air mod
Flowmaster exhaust
RKSport IAT sensor
ASP Underdrive pullys
TB Bypass
PF52 larger oil filter
3.42 non posi rear end
DeCarbon Trans Am shocks
Eibach pro series springs
B&M Shift Plus+ (best $40 ive ever spent)
Custom made billet alum front end inserts
Interior trim painted to match the car
Awia CD player with factory bose sound system
Viper alarm system
http://www.proam.webhop.org/

3.8's are much cheaper than LT1's. I got a complete running 3.8 from a junkyard for $500. You already have the tranny so the only thing you need is the ecm and a few misc pieces. Going to an LT1 would cost you at least 1000 to 1500 more. I debated swapping to an LT1 for a long time. Now that there are a few decent parts out for the 3.8 and we continue to make them faster I am very happy with the 3.8. IMHO the 3.8 will give more more mod and performance potential than the 3.4.Michael Huff
92 RS, 98 V6, 97 SS, 00 Z28
http://www.carolinafbodyclub.com/

You have a manual or automatic? You may need a different bellhousing if it's a manual. Most junkyard motors don't come with the alternator, ps pump, or AC. So you would need those pieces. You can probly get the ecm (computer) and wiring harness from the same car the motor comes from. The wiring harness will be cut where it goes through the firewall to the fuse pannel so you will have to re-connect all those wires. Check out:

i have an automatic trans so you think that would work?? the site you gave me is mostly all about LT1's/LS1's. I will search some sites for used engines. How hard do you think this would be to do?? if there is anymore info you can give me it will be well appreciated, thanks1996 Chevy Camaro SS
#67 of 2,410 made that year with the slp package
Street Lethal Fbody Association Member
http://www.cars-on-line.com/97cam11475.html

i was just browsing this topic and if you want my opinion i am half way inbetween swapin a LT1 in my 3.4 i would do that over hte 3.8.. the 3.8 only has 200hp for the few extra hundred dollors you pic up 75hp.. also no matter what trans you have the LT1 had a T56 manual and the 3.4 or 3.8 had a T5 which means they had a 5 speed and the LT1s had a 6 spd.. the auto also wont work the bellhousing on a 3.4 is 2 or so inchs shorter then the LT1 trans.. i found a trans out of an LT1 for 550 shiped to my house and im prob gonna pay between 1,050-1,200$ for the engine..
just a FYI
