I would love it if we could use copper for wires, but the idea of that much EFI interference near an extremely sensitive computer is enough to end that debate!

Although, 40 Ohms/ft isn't really that bad. At the outrageously high voltages our systems operate, even 1000 Ohms isn't a big deal. COP is taking care of alot of these problems...

I HATE this stupid 'waste spark' B.S. that's on our cars. The Haynes manual says that "more voltage is supplied to the combustion stroke plug because more energy is required for combustion." That's TOTAL B.S. everyone knows about energy taking the path of least resistance, and I'm pretty sure there's less resistance to spark in an "empty" combustion chamber. Not to mention the pressure issue. Why couldn't they just have stuck to a good ol' distributor? The LT/S 1's still have them? Are V6's not good enough? HUH?

Sorry. Had to vent.

They stopped the distributor idea in 96 on most if not all GM cars. LS1 never had a distributor.

they are suppost to give a 5% hp increase

they supposidly have hte lowest resistance and they have a capacitor on the wire that discharges the power when the time is right. according to them a engine at 7500 rpm spins 135* during the firing of one cyl, but with their wires, only 1*.
this more accurate timing and cleaner burn, etc.. etc... is what gives the power they claim.
bad part: $300 for a set
kelly drown (www.projecttransam.com owner) whos a friend of mine already tried them but didn't gain a damn thing lol...

so I will save my $300

Nology = Big *** Gimmick... Every product they sell is nothing more than a waste of money.

Oops. You're right about the LS1... I forgot.

Yes, the waste spark system fires two cylinders simultaneously. one cylinder is on the compression stroke and the other is on the exhaust stroke. That's why we have 3 coils. I assume they did it to reduce saturation and increase the voltage available to the system, but I still think it would be better if each cyl had its own coil or if there was a way to keep the exhausting cylinder from firing.

The problem is as stated above. It's assumed that more voltage will be applied to the cylinder that is firing, but this is not the case. It's probably a negligible difference, but it's still a waste to me.

About those Nology wires; I've looked over the stuff on the website and requested a catalog. I'm not sure what they think they're trying to pull, but putting a capacitor on the end of a SP wire won't make much difference, unless it's not allowed to discharge completely on each firing. Capacitors can only collect energy when there is a voltage difference present. Since a spark plug wire only charges when the plug is firing, I can't see how the capacitor can help. (Unless, like I said, the cap is somehow limited on its output, and energy collects over several sparks...) They don't look like they're worth $300 to me.

Anyway, I'll be moving on to a V8 soon, so my waste spark blues will be over.
