The plugs were pretty darn black

I am running some injector cleaner through the car at the moment w/ the same idea in mind. Trying valvoline -- recommended by Dominic.

    I have some logs
    In excel format
    http:\\www.digitalnothing.com\thomas\logs\scan15.xls

The files if you have or download the obd-2.com software
    http:\\www.digitalnothing.com\thomas\logs\scan15.log
    http:\\www.digitalnothing.com\thomas\logs\scan15.dat

The ET is not in seconds -- I think it is for every ready from the pcm

I apologize for the lack of rpms, I hit the wrong button (there is some stuff in there that I didn't want to get either)

    Started out 6% rich w/ 2+ timing
    Went to 6% rich w/ 4+ timing
    Went to 4% rich w/ 2+ timing

break it up into 3rds basically -- you will see one paticular wot run that has bunches of kr all the time, that was 6% w/ +4 timing

the engine was pretty well behaved tonight w/ just 2+ timing, but was still getting kr.

I was also wondering, maybe I should experiment w/ a set of plugs one range colder than stock? Like TR6's?

      Any opinions?

Tough call on the plugs - about like flipping a coin. The colder range could help with the detonation, but depending on what's causing the fouling, could make it worse because they won't burn off "crud" as well. Were *all* the plugs fouled or just some of them? (Was taking you to mean all by your description)

I am looking at a query in access that shows me my kr & advance during open loop.

right in the middle, I see my run w/ 4+ advance & 6% rich. I get plenty of kr, around 3 the whole time, which is about 10-15 horsies lost.

During the rest of the period, I see very low WOT timing. (at 2+ & 6% rich). Over all the runs I averaged 16 degrees of timing at wot. Far below the 22 Magnus said is normal.

As for the plugs, yes, all of them were covered in black carbon deposits. The electrodes were moderately clean, but the rest of the plug was pretty black.

Note also that it takes a condition of at least 4% rich to get just two degrees of timing out of the engine -- two degrees of timing that just don't seem to make much difference due to the intermittant knock (just a little knock will reduce overall timing for several seconds). I call it a very "shaky" 2 degrees of advance.
