  • OBD-II Interface ?

If I were to buy the OBD-II interface and the connector off of this web page, then download Obd-2, would I have a working setup? If not, what else would be needed to make the Obd-2 software work with my car?

    Thanks,

    Jeremy

Just get the setup from OBD-ii.com and a laptop and you're set.

This is actully a data converter that converts the OBD-II data into a computer readable data.

So I should shell out $122 for whole OBD-II shebang and forget about spending $25 (plus components) for the same thing? Something doesn't add up for me here..

Yep, just a convertor. You'll still need a serial cable, and it looks like you'll have to fabricate your own obd2 connector, but you can buy the connector parts from them.

You can either go with that or just by everything for $120 from http://www.obd-2.com
You'll probably end up using this software anyways.

What doesn't add up to you is the fact they had to a lot of R&D to figure out how to make this stuff. ;)

Didn't think R&D would be that much of the price. But my plan was to use that software and put longer wires on the converter to make a cable. Looks like I'll just wait and buy it all from obd-2.

Does this hardware/software setup allow to modify anything in the PCM, or is it just a view only tool...??

Not if you're using it on a Camaro. Unless I missed something, that interface is only ISO, which will not work on GM (VPW interface). I don't think Alex's product is overpriced at all. Also, his software logs everything, which alot of the free programs log NOTHING. Here's another option if you want a cheap palm interface along with the laptop use Harrison RD It only logs FOUR items in the PC software and he said in a few weeks the palm will log also.
I don't know anything about this product - I was just researching options.

Let me reiterate. Go to www.obd-2.com, get the 3-gateway connector, it will allow you to connect to ANY ANY ANY OBD-II CAR, whether GM, Ford, DC, Japanese, or Euro ... as far as I know. Do not try and undercut this by building your own. Your other option is autotap, but i have no experience with that.
All I know is that I have a 3-way from www.obd-2.com, have used it successfully on a Lexus IS300, Vette, and Camaro ... the student discount is nice too.
Follow my advice, you won't regret it. If you don't do it all with the same group, you probably won't get anywhere. In addition, the page has some updated browser files that allow for specific stuff to be viewed. Don't ask me abotu that, i'm not sure, something abotu Ltrims or injector pulse width.
