96 to 97 PCM swap

Has anyone actually physically done this? I bought what was supposed to be a fresh PCM no flash on it whatsoever for a 97. Well today I went to my buddy at the dealership, and they went to flash the 97 with a Y87 Vin I found here. Well he said that there is already a 97 flash on there, but he can't read what it's out of, but the PCM will not allow the car to start. Now then, the possibilities that I see, are, I got screwed and got a broken PCM, got a PCM that is flashed for a front drive car, OR, the tech (who has done this before) just didn't know what he was doing. I should be receiving my HP Tuners software for 97 V6's on friday, I got a tune ordered from Intense for a good baseline to start tuning the car !FMU, etc... I plan on pluggin in the 97 PCM and see if I can flash the BIN from Intense on to it.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

Also, does anyone know where I can get just a plan 97 PCM?

I had no problems with mine at the dealership. I gave them the vin# and then they flashed it. Might be the wrong pcm. On mine, I thought it was flashed for a M5, but when I put it in, it started but I was getting torque converter codes and it was idling like crap. We'll since it threw a torque converter I knew it was flashed for a A4. I had the dealership flash it with a '97 M5 vin and it worked fine. So I would say it is the wrong pcm or it is fried. Just do a web search for '97 3.8 camaro pcm and it should show you some junk scrap yards that have them.
