• 250 rwhp possible?

hi,
i was just wondering if 250+ RWHP would be possiblw without the use of nitros or a turbo/supercharger ect. Just N/A maybe with air intake, exhaust, ect and boring engines port polish ect. What do you think the top REHP would be?

for 270 rwhp, supersix heads/cam, intake totally done( maf screen, lid/bellows, cold/ram air), exhaust totally done(headers, cat, after-cat), and maybe a chip if needed. Max rwhp n/a could be up in the 300's, but I'm not sure, and turbo/super/n2o could be in the 400's, again I'm not that sure.

If the powerpak is 240bhp and 200rwhp
then 250rwhp = 300bhp

If you take the 200rwhp powerpack, increase compression to 12:1 you'll make 250+rwhp. normally aspirated mind you!

Well, lets not forget that Mike( AKA Ironman ) has just the SSM cam from the powerpak. Hes got 218rwhp.

Now what royce needed was major tuning.

Also, Mike is waiting for Tom at SSM to get some rockers finished. If he gets those rockers and P&P heads and intake, I can see 235rwhp without the help of MAFT+. Given what it can do with that, I say no more then 242rwhp.

Without a compression change, Jughead is right.

Does Mike (Ironman) know what he dynoed before that cam? what were the specs?

Yes, he dynoed around 203/237 before the cam. The specs were same as the Royce's except he went with 113 LSA as opposed to 112 LSA (which Royce has).

this is very intersting stuff. i think i'm leaning more with n/a than going the forced induction route. i'm going to start researching cams and things of that nature..

i just found out we now have a dyno back in town. give me till april and i will let you know what my pack has done for me. mine is not the same as royces and my cam is way different from iornmans also.
when is a safe time to put it on the dyno? i have already told myself i was going to give my car 1000 miles after installation before i race again.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

I think I could get close to 250 with more lift, heads, and a compression ratio change. It would be tight.

Just to clear this up my previous best dyno before the cam was 203/237 BUT that was running a short serp belt. With the regular serp belt I pulled 195/230. After that dyno I did:

Removed Jetchip module
SSM Cam 210/214 .450 lift 113LS
ported my own intakes and TB
MAFT+
and 1LE driveshaft for what it's worth

My new best was 219.8/234 running the regular belt, I didn't try the short one again. Too much of a PITA to change with the nitrous lines in the way.

So what I did was worth 25 at the wheels and I was very impressed/pleased with the results. I think Tom at SSM really knows his stuff about a 3.8 Next stop, heads, springs, rockers.

Nino, what are your cam specs?

my new cams specs are:
int 214
exh 220
lift .5
l/s 114

as you can see, that is way off toms original power pack cam.
6s.......under the hood or under the belt, they just dont cut it.

Awwww yeah, that looks nasty. I know you will benefit from the increased lift for sure. Can't wait to see the results. I assume you plan on using a MAFT+ for tuning? I hear a nasty idle in your future. Hearing your valves make pinging noises that echo in your exhaust pipes is COOL.

i know i need the maft+, i just dont have the money for it right now. just bought some rims and drag radials. how bad would i be hurting my car by not fine tunning it till say 2 months?

Oh you won't hurt the car driving around without a MAFT, you will just benefit from the SSM package the most with it. The cam will create a rich condition but not severe enough to cause any concern. Just don't go dyno untill you have the MAFT, you will be amazed what it does on the dyno, and at the track too.
