• Logged 1st run :) ...but have 1st issue :(

the battery for the laptop finally came so i took the car for a spin to log a run..it was NA..just me punching it up to about 60mph..i noticed everything working fine except the IAT sensor..it doesnt move AT ALL..just sits at -38*..whats the deal with at??..should i replace the sensor?..also..at one point in the run i got as much as 3* of knock..is that bad?..i dont know whats normal..could it be from the lack of IAT sensor?..thanks! AIT stands for air intake temp sensor. if its 38 below up there in new york then why would it get warmer in the 1-2 feet of your intake before it hits your sensor

Do you have an SLP temp module, or an IAT resistor or anything? Intense could have also edited that value from the file you ordered from them awhile back. I know when I've autotap'd my car in the past it will read a straight 41* due to the temperature module in my car. Sounds like maybe you have something similar installed.

no its nice up here..like 40* ..but the IAT sensor doesnt move at all..its like its not even hooked up..i had a problem with it a while ago..i pulled the wires out the back by accident when i was working on the car..i hooked the wires back up and everything but didnt realize there was still a problem..i think that might be causing it..i'll just get a new pig tail and sensor for like $20 and see if that takes care of it..its pretty cheap and that will eliminate it being the sensor..but would that cause the 3* of knock i saw?..or is that normal?..thanks guys!

well if your sensor is telling the computer its neg 38 degrees its probably adding a good bit of timing that could be your cause.

You should be getting an SES light from that IAT. Anything below -29° will set a code.

The IAT sensor has so little control over timing, I doubt that's it. It only retards the timing like a couple degrees when it's hot out.

Can you post the whole log so we can see it?

Just a thought. Did you see if there were any trouble codes displayed? If you have a lower temp stat, you may be throwing a thermostat code which would cause your temp gauge not to work.

yup..i've been shutting it off so much lately i just set it to not turn the light on..i can post a log tomorrow..my gf is using the laptop for school right now..id like to post one anyway just to see what all you tuners think of the #s..but basically everything is working fine..injectors, o2s, MAF, etc..except the IAT sits still at -38 (which is the lowest on that gauge)..and of course the things this might possibly be effecting..i just bought a new sensor and have the pig tail connector on the way..im thinkin that should do it..i'll post a log tomorrow and then one after i fix the sensor

when a sensor reads -38,-39, or like -40 it means there's an open in the circuit. The PCM defaults to that reading. Replace the sensor and you should be good.

Yes, replace the sensor. As already stated, a open circuit ONLY will create that type of reading. But it is not the cause of the knock, that is something else.

it is the cause of the knock because the pcm is adding like 12 degrees of spark at that temp.

I looked it up and the ECT sensor will cause this kind of spark advance. The IAT will only add about 3 degrees, in it's extremes. So there may be another issue causing your knock.
