I'm putting on new H/Gs. Should I use Red RTV high temp
silicone sealant or no?
the haynes says to use sealant only if they gaskets are steel.
I'm not sure if these Fel-Pro gaskets Are steel?
thanks

uh, no
I would have to have specs sheets (which ARE out there)
dont want to damage them doing them myself
Iron is hard to grind through
fuk iron, I'd rather have aluminum
I dont really think it would make that much of a difference, not worth the time
I dont really have any major supporting mods, like cam, turbo, etc
but in the future I will get some Abbott heads!!

Do not use any sealants or adhesives on the head gaskets.
Make sure the block deck is clean.
Make sure the head is clean.
Put head gasket in position on block deck.
Put head in position.
Put head bolts in position.
Torque head bolts.

If there was a sealant that could be used I would say that Red RTV would be it.

The RTV could interfere with the funtion of the head gasket and also get extruded into the oil galleys and water jacket/passages. Posssible blockage situations! If you haven't torqued the headbolts yet, I would remove the head and the gaskets, and clean all traces of RTV from everything. Then reassemble.
I've never seen head gaskets assembled with sealants before, so I have no idea as to the actual impact this will have long term. My guess is that your engine will be more prone to anouther head gasket failure because you have changed the adhesion characteristics at the interface between the head/gasket/block.

Maybe they meant you could use RTV on the other gaskets. I find it surprising that they recommend it for Head Gaskets!

it really pisses me off that people tell me to use sealant on the metal fel-pro head gaskets when I shouldnt have, because, useing sealant probably made my compression ratio lower via thicker h/gs! grrr

Your compression ratio is the last thing I would worry about.
Red rtv can get to 650F INTERMITTENT, whereas combustion chambers get a lot hotter than that.
Who told you to put sealant on?

Haven’t done anything on the Camaro, but put LEDs on my truck headlights . And my oil pressure sensor went out on the truck so going to fix that this...
