  • blown head gaskets @ 72K????? NEED REPLY ASAP!

My car with 72ooo miles on it somehow has a blown head gasket...but I never drive it....i've owned it just over a year, and for the last year it's been sitting in my garage...i do start it just to keep the battery in check...but anyway, my mechanic says it is getting coolant into cylinder # 2...most likely blown head gasket...then he tole me about STeelSeal...which is supposed to fix blown head gaskets...
    heres the link... steelseal.com
has anyone ever tried it or know if it REALLY works...it is 60 bucks a bottle and I need 1 1/2 for 6 cylinder car... please let me know ASAP...thanks

The GM coolant has a habbit of eating away engine gaskets.

Personally, I don't trust what I saw on the website. There just seems to be too many holes in the story. It also says that it will not fix large holes in a headgasket.

Without knowing exactly what is going on with your car, it is hard to say what you should do. If it was me, I would replace the gasket myself, but I don't know what your situation is.

Also, there are a lot of reasons that could be why your gasket blew. It could be from the car sitting all the time, ie the coolant sitting in the same place or the engine not warming properly. It could be any number of things, but milage usually has nothing to do with headgaskets. In fact, I helped replace the headgasket on an 05 gsxr 600 with 500 miles a couple of months ago.

I have seen that kind of sealant work for MANY MILES.
I say if you keep it, fix it, if you trade it in, seal it.

            You're positive it's a head gasket?

I had blown my plenum gasket (lower intake) after around 45-50k. That made me leak coolant (not visually, but you'd have to refill the coolant every week or two).
