Just did a H/G swap.
I get a tick, its not loud, and I cant tell if its coming from the rockers or what side.
One of my pushrods was scratched pretty bad, so I'm thinking its that.
Or the fact that I reused the old TTY rocker bolts?
what do you think?

ugh, cant wait to redo my headgaskets AGAIN!
I probably would've tried to drive it if not for the ticking.
can it hurt anything if I bend a pushrod?
I'm not getting white smoke out of the exhaust, i'm not getting coolant in
me oil, and its not overheating! It looks as if the rtv red silicone is working on
the head gaskets, but I just dont trust the rtv.
Use a hollow pipe (pvc, etc) and hold one end up to your ear while you move it around. You'll hear the noise much better and should be able to find where it's coming from. Just keep it out of the belt. ;)
you do realise that the right way to adjust rockers is when the engine running, right?
No, that's not right at all. There is no adjusting of the rockers on our engines. They do it automatically. Other engines yes, but not us.
From the Factory Service Manual:
In addition to its normal function of a cam follower, each valve lifter also serves as an automatic adjuster which maintains zero lash in the valve train under all operating conditions. By eliminating all lash in the valve train and also providing a cushion of oil to absorb operating shocks, the valve lifter promotes quiet valve operation. It also eliminates the need for periodic valve adjustment to compensate for wear of parts.
Yes, that is absolutely correct. Some other engines (including older ones) required adjustment, but it's all done by the lifters on our engines. Just torque the rocker arm bolt to spec and that's it. No adjustment needed. ;)
Now if the bolt is loose or the pushrod is way short, there'll be no stopping the ticking.
That ticking in the valve train can also be from a lifter that is failing to pump up properly, thus unable to maintain the zero lash (lash is the measured clearance in the valve train). The lifter can fail to pump up if it is internally worn, or if there is a lack of oil supplied to it.
Not to freak you out here, but it is possible that the lifters were exposed to the oil contaminated with antifreeze, which might have caused some wear.

Now Playing: \'99 Pewter Firebird, stock, bone stock, and nothing but stock, so help me God!
Comming attractions: K&N Filter, Lid Mod, Intake Bellows Smooth Pipe Mod.
I dream about: Forced Induction (TC or SC) or NOX (or both!)
i did the pvc pipe tool, and I still couldnt hear where its coming from.
so i'm gonna put in new pushrods, make sure everything is moly-greased, and redo the rockers when I put in new head gaskets tomorrow
