Not to be rude, but if you don't know which port to make bigger or smaller don't touch your engine with a dremel.
i've seen the charts comparing ssm, intense, abbott, and stock.
i've seen the I/E % ratios.
I know what I'd like to do.
But I'm gonna take a raincheck on doing it right now.
I wish I had a flowbench to test my velocity and CFM.
Wish I had extra spare heads.
Abbotts would be a good choice, depending on what I need for my application.

On a side note,
I'd like to port my upper & lower intakes.
I'd like to cut the upper/plenum directly in half.
port it out from the inside out.
then weld it back.
but I doubt it would really be worth it with my shatty mods.

There is a lot more to porting the heads than knocking the rough edges and sanding them out. A lot more metal comes out than most probably think. If anyone has any questions about our products, just ask me, I'm here to help!
Also, there isn't really a reason to cut the intake in half if you're not going to do some epoxy work. You can port the runners without cutting it in half.

I said I was going to weld it back. I also could use epoxy instead, but would rather weld. I was wanting to port the full inside of the intake, not just the runners.
If I ported my own heads, I think I could only gain a max of 8hp probably.
It might be good for low lift

It seems to me that you dont have the necessary cash flow to have your heads shipped out to be ported by intense or abbott. Or you are maybe just really excited about doing it urself. If you do it yourself I wish you the best of luck. I say go for it, As long as your ratio or intake and exhaust doesnt exceed 85% then you should be in the clear, but one thing you should make sure of is that you have the heads bench flowed after you do a port job to see what gains uve made.
In respect to the intake plenum, I would be cutting it in half because porting it perfectly wont give you all that much gain anyways, I think you are investing more time and money and energy than you need to be doing with the intake. Any other questions shoot them to me, especially about the head reasearch sticky. Those are the main components to a good head flow design and you should understand them, it took me awhile to master the ideas.

i already did my DIY port of the heads and intakes. the only thing i'm worried about is it will probably change my AFR % in each different cylinders. I'm wanting to tune the afr to the brink of leanness to get as much power as I can with a good tune. HPT needs to make the EIO have provisions for 8 widebands. It took me like 10 professional grinding stones to grind everything. I definately say abbott heads are worth the $. I'm just trying to save up for a lsX swap and some lsX mods... dont wanna spend anymore on this 3.8L, dont get me wrong I love the 3.8L! If I had another car, I would hope it would be a FI 3.8L

Yes milling the heads will benefit you. Im not knowledgable enough to go into detail about it all but I can tell you this, that by milling the heads you will increase your cylinder's compression.

You could mill the stock heads around .025-.030 but the difference in
power
will be very minimal. Honestly it wouldn't be worth all the work
getting
the heads off and back on the car.

I replied telling him that I was taking the whole top end off to check the motor over and was looking for that little extra kick.
I think that I will shave them .030 then get that thinner head gasket from intense. Hope everything goes right when I do this.
Thanxs for the advice and help guys.
this is the thread it came from: http://forum.camarov6.com/showthread.php?t=65657&page=2
I trust Lance's opinion over almost anyones.
Intense sells that thinner head gasket, but its like $120?
And you might have to get shorter pushrods if you mill it too much.
