Yep. I found out I have a few worn main bearings, a few worn rod bearings, one completely torn up rod bearing, a couple scarred pistons, and one of the bearings (is that what you call it) on the crankshaft is worn way down. How amazing, and only after 55,000 miles!

        Re: porting heads

I believe it's already been mentioned earlier in this thread, but the article is so good, it's worthy of repeating it's location.

There is an excellent article about DIY cyinder head porting on the Standard Abrasives Motorsports site. Go to http://www.sa-motorsports.com/diyport.shtm

It's also available as a .pdf download from:
        http://www.sa-motorsports.com/portdiy/diyport.pdf

In Parts 2 and 3 of "Camaro Performers" magazine's, Project Fast Victor Six, we discussed having a set of 3800 heads done by a professional porter, Mark DeGroff's Cyinder Head Service in Northridge, CA.

There are good points and bad points to each approach. DIY is certainly cheaper but it takes some practice to be good with porting tools and not screw-up your heads. If you try it DIY, I strongly suggest buying a second set of junk heads to do first. Once you're experienced on those, then try the heads you'll actually use.

Conversely, using a professional, experienced head porting service saves a lot of time and in some cases will produce much better results. Also, in a case where you need to do something like machine valve guides for a higher lift camshaft, grind valves and seats, test valves springs or displacement balance the chambers, maybe a pro is a better way to go.
