  • HELP!!!! exhaust overheating glowing

asked this question under intake exhaust section but still a little stumped. My exhuast is overheating long story short bought a car dirt cheap 93 camaro 3.4 that was run hot, blown headgaskets and such. Had to rebuild the engine cause the rings pistons were damaged from the heat and the walls were scuffed. trying to work the bugs out of the car. its running again and the exhaust is so hot that the pipes have a slight orange glow to them at night. The temp guage runs straight 180 but after the engine is shut down and restarted a few minutes later its 220 but thats not abnormal. never heard any coolant boiling after shutdown. no catalytic converter to clog has stock manifolds and muffler shop pipes that connect to the original exhaust where the cat was. checked fuel pressure was 35 psi. made an andjustable regulator and now fuel pressure is close to 50 psi. still same thing. i rechecked the lash on the valves because the machine shop says the 1 1/2 turns the manual states is too tight and the valves werent closing so i backed down to 1/2 turn past zero on the hydraulic lifters. some of the o rings and the retainers on the injectors were cooked replaced them before reinstaling fuel rail. check engine light on constantly, bought a code reader followed instructions. no trouble codes flashed like the manual says. apparently i need a scanner and need suggestions on a good name reasonably priced scanner that will help diagnose my problems or any suggestions from you good people. the car runs extremely well except the heat. if it ran like crap I'd think temp sensors, injectors or something else. i dont think bad o2 sensors would lean it out so bad that the exhaust would glow. plugs have a nice tan color to them regardless of the heat. its melted some of the covering on the wiring harness. blistered paint on the oil filter and I'm sure it will kill the newly rebuilt engine soon if i dont figure it out. after the car price, rebuild of the engine and front end ive got 3 grand in the car and frustrated as hell! any suggestions???

See your other post. Doesn't really need to be in 2 sections at once. Just bump that one back to the top. ;)
