How much can I shave my stock heads/ will there be a noticiable difference? Reason is that when I shave my heads on my race engines for my dirt car it has a pretty noticable difference and I have them shaved 30 all the time. Well only once for each head. I was wondering about my stock heads on my little L36 motor. Going to pull the top end apart and make shure everything is good for another 100k. though it would be cool if I could get all I could out of it as well.:rolleyes:

I would think on a v8 head you could gain only a max of 19hp.
I would think on a v6 you could only gain a max of 8hp.
(I'm just guessing)
You cant port the combustion chamber areas on the head because
that would substantially lower compression ratio.

the thinner gasket is .015 skinnier than stock, it gives an increase in
0.1:1 cr.

I don't think anyone has done it to find out the maximum.
I took .010 off when I had my heads off.
I have no problems.
You could most likely do more without a problem.

You could mill the stock heads around .025-.030 but the difference in
power
will be very minimal. Honestly it wouldn't be worth all the work
getting
the heads off and back on the car.

I replied telling him that I was taking the whole top end off to check the motor over and was looking for that little extra kick.
I think that I will shave them .030 then get that thinner head gasket from intense. Hope everything goes right when I do this.
