I'm just starting to get into my engine a little, so I decided to start with a set of ported intake manifolds. What kind of gains am I looking at from this? Also, while I have the manifolds off, would it be fairly easy to replace the lifters as well?

Re: Ported intakes
Depends on what else you've done to the car. You might see 10 rwhp depending on what you've done and how high the motor revs. Port and polish the intakes. The fuel doesn't add in untill the very last part of the lower intake, so in the head is where you need it a little rough to help the air mix with the fuel.2001 Arctic White Firebird
More mods than I\'m allowed to list!

Re: Ported intakes
About the second part of my question.....can the lifters be replaced pretty easily once the manifolds are removed? If so I'll throw in some new Comp lifters while I'm in there.......2000 3.8L Firebird, Silver Metallic

\"Yes, London. Re: Ported intakes
nope, engine was always in my car both times i did my Head gasket swap.
I'm sure lifters are pretty easy to change out, just time consuming if you dont have air tools. I love my air tools btw!
Once you take off both intake manifolds the lifters are just right there in the lifter valley. I would definately get
a Haynes or a Chilton Repair manual. I love mine!
It took like a good 13 hours to do my head gasket swap the first time. I was a virgin and didnt have air tools.
Now it takes me like 4 hours. I dont have to label any bolts anymore! I know where each one goes now by heart.
Just be careful with the upper intake bolts, they are VERY easy to brake off in the lower intake!!!
Doing a head gasket swap, the hardest thing believe it or not is the exhaust manifolds IMHO, and of course the lift brakets.2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC!
