What is the advantage of buying new heads like SSM's stage2+ heads as opposed to porting your stock heads and buying new rockers and springs etc.

Re: Buy new heads????
well, you're not gonna be able to do as good a job as SSM or Abbott or Intense. They've had years of research & development. Stage 2 is better than the stage 1 obviously. Stage 3 is best. Heads are best with an aftermarket cam and tuning. If I were to get Heads, it would be Abbott.
I dont think you can have upgraded rockers(1.9) with an aftermarket cam?
But if you got 1.9 rockers by themselves, you would have a gain of like 10-15 rwhp.
I'm no expert, hopefully you'll get some better facts2k2 camaro, K&N, SLP whisper lid, Konis, AEM, HP Tuners, Angel eyes/Halos, CF SS ram air hood, 4.10s, Zexel Torsen, UMI SFCs, CrossFire, BFGs, Gatorback, Catco, Flows, and TLC! DONT feed the Trolls!

Re: Buy new heads????
Slow is absolutely right.....The chance of a local port job to be as good as intense or abbott is slim. Most local port shops will have tremendous knowledge with porting small and bigblock chevy heads. The theory behind head flow is the same but the numbers for a v6 are completely different than a v8, therefore, it is almost impossible for a local porter to do a job as good as intense or abbott without doing hours and hours of research.
I on the other hand bought my heads from a member on the board that had them ported at a local shop and they have had great results for me.
If you read my sticky on head research, I concluded that abbott has the best flow design. However, the difference in performance between all vendors is slim because they have similar technology methods for head flow.SLP CAI, RK Sport headers, P&Ped heads and intake, GT2 cam, Upgraded valvetrain, Z28 rear axle with 4.10s Tx Spd tune, Z06 rims, 2.5\" exhaust to flowmaster, 160* thermo, B&M ripper, upgraded ignition, rockford fosgate 12\" with sony xplode amp and HU.
